From what I seen a lot of expert devs are saying that atmosphere code is very shitty
And SX OS is made by a experimented and professional team so I’m certain their cfw is way better
That speculation is not correct though.
Open source programs need to be at least decent.

On the other hand closed source code is almost always a mess, because the main driver here is "make something that just works".

Most companies I worked for, had a hacky "just able to work" code.

In the end, I don't understand why there's a need to have such a comparison. I thought that the user only wants something that just works and has what he needs.

I wouldn't be surprised if SX OS turned out superior to Atmosphere, however I wouldn't be surprise if SX OS is much more likely to get you banned, as its mainly targeting piracy, whereas Atmosphere's main focus is emulation.

I don't like it at all. I'm getting tired of this shit.
I was mostly making a little fun of the OP sience a few minutes ago he posted that exact phrase in another thread, then go and create a thread about speculation, i just liked the irony
This is what i mean:
I like how this thread is just speculation lmao

Ha. Ha. No.

To offer the opinion of a former 3DS CFW dev, Atmosphere is pretty freaking well coded. It's taking so long because they're not patching components of the OS, they're writing open source reimplementations with extra functionality to support the CFW use case.

If you find reading and understanding an unfamiliar codebase to be a nightmare, you should quit programming. People do this all the time - it's in the nature of open source to need to do this, or for that matter, multiple people working on the same project.

Decide the specifications of the project before you implement it. I've been bit by that more than once.

I disagree. Atmosphere is organized in a rational manner. It's componentized, and how it functions from a higher level is clear: it's not patching anything, it's replacing chunks of the OS with re-implementations. Each of these individual components are obviously in flux, but what they must provide for API is already quite well defined by nintendo. It's lacking in the documentation department, but that's to be expected at the moment.

No, it will not be more polished. It will be ready first, but it will not be more polished. Atmosphere is taking so long because they're doing it the right way, as in zero code patches but replaced components of the OS. This is in contrast to every other CFW in existence which uses some if not all code patches. These people have been doing reverse engineering, documentation, and programming for years. I find it hard to believe an unknown team who's contributed nothing can do a better job and isn't just leeching off open source work.

Also, paid professionals do not make for a better product nor code.

It's not about understanding a code base it rather I'll say my work ethic.
I hate sloppy code and I know it could have been done more efficiently in terms of atmosphere There many areas where you could save tons of time using more complicated methods now(delaying release time a bit) making future code maintenance a lot easier in my eyes vs the current approach that from past exp I know will be a pain to maintain structure wise.

On the subject of tx OS you can have your opinion/bias but you can't say from what's been show it's not a way cleaner option vs the hetake builds in the wild at this moment in time. Just from a operation stand point there payload seems a lot more polished(gui, options ease of use ) atlest for the general public. But that's just my opinion and it mite be strictly bias as I Mainly deal with POS software with bug hunting as a hobby.

You do make some points I can agree with but with not many so let's cut it down to agree to disagree before the kids start taking thread to flame on others work with no respect to its maker

"open source is almost always better"

https://www.coredna.com/blogs/comparing-open-closed-source-software

The quality of hobby work does not compare to the work that people create for their livelyhood, for lots of reasons. I love open source and am part of a few open source projects myself, but I would always pick the paid alternatives for a production environment.

it was whoever gets them gamez backup to load first wins, tx did that and won over tons of ppl i guess.

no biggie, but in the end the non dongle requirement CFWs are usually the ones that come on top.

@Vetusomaru, Sadly, not all communities like to play nice. Forums are pretty much dying despite Discord amongst other social media being available.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
i only kept my twitter accounts and only because many of the artists i like share their art only/mostly at twitter.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
lots of discord groups (even the big ones) are also dead for some reason.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    Twitter is way too shittier.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
that's why i added some firefox addons to block shit like twitter trends.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Discord, on the other hand, moderation tends to not be very nice in video game communities from what I had experienced.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
nah, discord is also a shithole. discord is good only if you have your own community with your own rules. or if you re lucky to find some groups that arent shitholes.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
as about forums, when i recently revisited some old forums i used to be regular and seeing how immature most members still are i was like "Yeap. Nothing of value has been lost.". Unfortunately it's the good, comfy forums that ended up dead or shut down, especially because of internet centralization.
  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:
    I like being immature.
  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:
    Let be immature online ffs.
  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:
As long as it's not resetera, anywhere is ok really.
  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:
    resetera is just... cancerous
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
is that Ultimate Hentai Kamen at your avatar?
  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:
    I see you're a person of culture.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
    likewise
  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:
    It's a genuinely great manga.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
too bad it never got an anime adaption, even in the form of OVA since a tv series would be too censored for the manga's material.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
    and yeah, great manga.
  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:
no idea why it would be censored tbh, it has nothing to explicit
  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:
compared to most midnight anime that air in japan
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
we talk about same japanese tv that censors shit like teenage characters smoking
  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:
I'd rather they censor smoking than cleavage like they do in the west.
  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:
Smoking is bad for your health, boobs are good
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
actually anime have also toned down fanservice a lot at the last 2 decades. when was the last time you saw nipples in anime that isnt hentai?
Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru: actually anime have also toned down fanservice a lot at the last 2 decades. when was the last...
