"maybe you can find cheaper ones here, TX not knowing, it's our current situation(Shipment&Stock&Nintendo) making us do this change, now every site still selling this modchip is bearing a Hugh risk you can't imagine ever"

basically they trying to use the excuse of nintendo finally hitting them to mark up the prices

Yeah but the point of that is the prices are not ramped up for a preorder

Yes but if you lack space... these stations takes up a lot of space you can not just put them in a drawer hehe, and in my case it's not a product I use daily.. quite ocasionally. Maybe those TS100 are more suitable for my kind of use, but I bought it few years ago and I'm really happy with it. The downside I have a 26W one not a 11W one, so it's not really suitable for very little SMD

You should be perfectly fine with using your 26W iron for surface-mount work. The advantage of the 11W in this case would be the lower balancing temperature, but as long as you don't leave the iron in contact with components for too long, as in more than 2s or so, there shouldn't be any problems. If it were one of those cheaply built irons there would be a concern with temperature overshoot, but with a quality tool from JBC you can trust it to perform appropriately.

I've personally used a local brand 30W thermally balanced iron for almost 10 years to solder delicate ICs, including precision op-amps, and never accidentally damaged a component. Plastic stuff like 3.5mm jacks, yeah, ruined a few of those, but not electrical/electronic components.

The problem is the finest compatible tip I can get is 1 mm.. to thick for works like this modchip

Try it on a few scrap boards first, but a 1mm tip should work. There's no need for extreme precision here since the boards will be held in position by the anchor points. You'll just be pre-tinning the pads and then reflowing them onto the components (and contact points for the Lite), so as long as you can heat both surfaces at the same time there shouldn't be any problems.

Good answer! I'll wait until I'm fitting the chip. It'll be a surprise :-D

ordered some rosin 60/40 0.6mm 2% flux solder
surprisingly its already arrived in the UK fro china in 5 days since ordering.

I'm currently using the known usb 8w soldering iron which heats from the tip and the stock tip is fine point, its good practice and i can limit the temperatures by change the usb outlet to a lower amp source. can borrow a better anyway

my chips preordered now at a normal price so its the race for distribution

also aliexpress now has them on sale (but not to uk)

I contacted them. They said the refund has been made and I should received it within 5 days. That was a Week ago and still got nothing. Will try to contact them again today. Fingers crossed.

    5th march

    And yes, means shipping started.

Actually wanted to order from dgchips, but elewelt had faster shipping and was cheaper overall.
