Woha, I didn't expected it to be so easy.
I never soldered SMD before but my V2 worked on the first try - thanks to the video tutorial from sthetix. Still it was a big adventure till the first powering up of the modded switch :-)

It's conductive, so no, I wouldn't use that.

Nintendo's TIM is crap. Anything you use that's half way decent (name brand anything), and non conductive, is going to be better than stock.

*Toothpaste is going to be better than stock.
The thing is just that it doesnt matter with such a low power chip.

True, specially on the Mariko units, the temp is quite low all the time, personally I haven't heard the fan yet.

With my unpatched Switch the fan was constantly spinning

Exactly. I had written a bit of a rant and heavily cut it down to my final post. I even made references to Intel's "toothpaste" and that it's better than stock Nintendo. But yes, it's a Tegra X1, not an Intel i9. Especially at the clockspeed that Nintendo has it running at. I'm sure if Nintendo tried hard enough they could have cooled it passively with the stock clocks they run the chip at.

i remember i was kind of disappointed after changing thermal compound, as i thought it would keep the temperature down, but really it just made the fan spin less at the same temperatures as before.

A bit of a random question, but what soldering flux do you guys recommend using? I'm currently using a kester flux pen (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005T8OR4I?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share), but the flow of the flux being extracted from the pen's felt tip is getting cumbersome, especially on these tiny points on a Switch.

If any of the pro installers here buy their flux from Amazon, I would really appreciate it if you could leave a link to stuff you personally use
