Hi, I'm having a weird problem with my oled switch.

It works correctly, lights up normally. But every time I launch a game, it ends up freezing and I have to force a restart by holding down the power button. On each game the freeze happens differently. For example on Mario Kart, it freezes when starting a race after loading. On dying light, after 10 min. On odyssey, no freeze. Etc. etc.

I thought it was a RAM problem, so I installed a picofly to check the CPU, GPU and RAM usage. No problem, the CPU is never at 100%, the GPU between 80/100, RAM between 2000 and 3000. Temperature 40-50°c. I did a nand benchmark, everything is normal.

I checked the motherboard for short circuits, nothing. If anyone has a clue that would be great because I have no more ideas...

It's quite odd that it happens under load.

If you installed a picofly, then maybe check the diode values for all points and compare them with the values mentioned in this topic :
https://gbatemp.net/threads/picofly-a-hwfly-switch-modchip.622701/page-800
You might have to go back several pages or create a new reply with your values.
It might just be a bad connection.
But usually you'll have problems glitching or just booting in that case.

I believe that in Hekate it also shows the emmc brand (Samsung, Hynix, Toshiba).
There was a bad batch of Switches out there that have their emmc get hotter than designed and causing strange behavior (not only in the Switch but also other tablets).
There were people who said that they could not get the picofly to run stable with such emmcs.

Does it also happen when you have the AC adapter plugged in?
If not, then maybe check the battery.
Bad Li-ion batteries can give sudden power drops when they aged too much. (+500 charge cycles).
Or check the voltage regulator (MT92). Especially whether it gets uncomfortably warm.
When you start playing games, a lot more power is drawn and bad voltage regulators might not be able to keep up.

Someone posted a memory benchmark in this topic.
Not sure if it still works.
https://gbatemp.net/threads/ram-memory-test-utility-for-switch.630805/
Try this homebrew app right after you had a crash when the Switch is still warm.

But as said, this is quite odd behavior.

Hi,
the problem happened before installing the picofly. I installed it only to have access to information and benchmarks.

I've already looked at the memory and done a benchmark. It's a Samsung so not affected like the sk hynix.

I tried on the dock and on the charger alone, still the same. I'll try the memory benchmark to see what it gives, thank you.

I've never encountered a similar problem before, after working on a lot of switches... I'm going crazy

Sounds like a bad ram or nand, at worse a dying apu. You should have sent it for a repair before modding it to be honest.

yep, I already had the problem before the mod. I installed the pico only to have access to the benchmark..

I first thought about ram too BUT I played Mario Odyssey for 30 min at 3500/4000 ram usage without ever any freeze so... On Mario Kart I freeze after a few seconds of racing, the ram has less than 2000...

Well, I don't understand what is going on... I play Mario odyssey like 1 hours with no freeze, no lag, no nothing...

Every other game I try crash in less than 5 minutes or directly after launch.

Ofw cartridge odyssey ok
ofw cartridge Mario kart crash after loading a race
cfw backup Mario kart crash after loading a race
cfw backup dying light crash at loading after 10 min of playing
ofw asphalt crash directly after launch

So, for me the nand is ok. Ram too because odyssey run just fine for 1 hour with no lag or glitch. Apu/GPU ok for same reason. What can cause something like that ?

Switch look brand new, doesn't have any damage at all..

I run the 2 ram test program without any issue, everything look good.

I try playing dying light again, a big game for switch. Depend on the mode I choose, I can play all I want without any freeze. If I choose for example the story mode, every time the game begin normally and when I try to take the elevator that go into loading screen and the Switch crash. Look the picture, all the value for me looks good... no sense. On the picture the Switch was freeze at loading, before that loading screen I can play all I want..

Is it possible the nand is corrupted ? Software problem ?! I have the backup and key so, maybe I can try to rebuild..
