How can you transfer a save from emunand to sysnand - when the game isn't installed on sysnand (and never has been)?

I'm looking to import saves for Pokemon BD and SS into my sysnand so that Legends Arceus will unlock two quests. That's all I need them for. I do not have BD or SS on sysnand, nor do I want them.

The problem is that save managers only show you what is (or has been) installed. Therefore when I run JKSV or Checkpoint on sysnand BD and SS aren't there, so I have no way to import the save.

On the other hand, I had Metroid Dread on emummc. I bought it on sysnand, and was able to use JKSV to import the save without issue. So the process works, as long as the game is there on sysnand. So all I need is a way to do this... without buying the games. Or pirating them on sysnand, which is a sure ban.

What's a bit frustrating (and I hate to complain about wonderful free software) is that in the JKSV readme on github it mentions a solution for this very problem. You can export what the dev calls .svi's for software from emunand, and JKSV will then use those to make that software appear even where it isn't installed so that you can import a save.

However this feature isn't implemented at all in the current github release of JKSV (which dates back to September). I saw the dev post a more recent build (from two months ago), and this one DOES export .svi files, but it doesn't appear to recognize them, so perhaps it's still only half implemented. If there's a newer build I don't know of it, but you might.

I'm sure plenty of Legends Arceus players will have this question so maybe it has already been answered (if so, apologies).

Thanks to anyone who takes the time. Great community here.

Hmmmm. Had always thought you needed the game installed to import saves and had never considered otherwise.

While you may be new to the forum I wouldn’t consider this a noob question. @JK_ is active on this site and does a great job fielding questions about JKSV on his release thread if you want to try getting some specific answers there.

There’s still a good chance someone else can be more help here as well…

Many thanks to @binkinator and @Draxzelex !
I learned a ton of things in the last couple of weeks, and made the switch from sxos to the latest hekate + atmosphere.

I'm 90% there.
The last thing I'm struggling with is to transfer the game saves from the sxos cfw to atmosphere. I'm using JKSV and I was able to copy games saves. However importing the saves doesn't seem to copy users profiles.
Is there a specific action for that.

An additional question : what are the system backups in JKSV ? and should I restore them ?

Again many many thanks for your help

@Draxzelex is the help channel champ. I just pick up his occasional scraps. Only a casual user of JKSV so I haven’t gotten into enough situations to go deep. I mentioned below that @JK_ is a member here and does frequent his release page if you feel so inclined.

Anyone else with more detailed JKSV knowledge? Maybe we can both learn.

edit: are you talking about general switch user profiles or something in game?

Thanks for the link to the JKSV thread link.

I guess I was talking about the general switch user profile. I had 3 users showing up in the sxos cfw.
And backed up save games for the 3 users.

However only one appears in the games and in JKSV restore options

@binkinator You flatter me too much. I've just been around the Switch scene for a while and I felt the only way someone who can't code could contribute to the scene is by being tech support. Anyways...

I wasn't even aware this was possible because as far as I knew, you always had to run the game in order for JKSV to restore a save game. I can think of another workaround assuming the game doesn't constantly need the save data. What you can do is install the save data for BDSP & SWSH on emuMMC then run game on emuMMC long enough for it to detect the save data. I think there is some costumes you unlock as well so try talking to the clothier. After that, just import your save data from emuMMC to sysMMC.

Someone suggested in another thread to try & use Linkalho, more specifically the "Create Manual Backup" and "Restore Backup" features.

I also found the nx-activity-log homebrew, do you think it might work ?

I want to be able to trade with myself using Legends: Arceus, but I only have one physical cart(and two switches, one hacked and one not). What cart installer do I need to use? Using gamecard installer causes it to get corrupted immediately, and when I used nxdumptool to get an NSP, Awoo installer won't let me install it. Just updated atmosphere, firmware to 13.2.0, updated sigpatches, and everything.

I'm not 100% certain but this seems to be a problem with the NCA signature checking. The first thing I'd do is try dumping the game again and see if it installs. If that fails, read on.

Since you dumped the game yourself, it's ok to go into Awoo or TinWoo's settings and enable installing of unsigned code (I can't remember the exact phrasing and I don't have my Switch on me ATM but it's called something obvious like that). After installing, toggle the setting back.

In case you were not the one who dumped the game and it's failing the signature check, be very careful. Unless you trust the source, the file may have been maliciously altered in some way. Try finding the game elsewhere and only install if it passes the test. Note that converting from XCI to NSP or splitting the file to accommodate FAT32's size limit will cause even a legit dump to fail. It's all down to who you trust.

I was the one that dumped it, using my actual copy.

I redownloaded it, even turned off the NCA thing in the settings, but it still won't download. It plays just fine on the cart itself, but I want to make a digital copy so I can trade with myself via using the actual cart on my non-hacked switch.

Have you dumped your latest keys with Lockpick_RCM?

edit: also try getting your Sigpatches from here … there have been issues getting them from other places.

didn't try it yet. will let you know :)

YEAH ! got it ! :toot:
@Draxzelex trick did it:
  • installed Linkalho on both sxos and atmosphere
  • launched Linkalho and backed up users manually on sxos (and also on atmosphere, just in case something bad had happened)
  • transfered the backup zip from sxos to the restore folder on atmosphere sdcard and renamed it restore.zip
  • used the restore option of Linkalho and reboot
  • enjoy :)

Have you dumped your latest keys with Lockpick_RCM?

Failed to Install Pok_mon Legends_Arceus v0 (lots of numbers).nsp!

Partially Installed contents can be removed from the System Settings applet

Openfilesystemwith1d:124 Failed to open filesystem. Make sure your signature patches are up to date and setup properly.

I used the bin, and picked the first option but it still gave the above message. What am I doing wrong?

i agree it’s NCA sig checking. Since he’s dumping his own cart are you thinking of adding kip1patch=nosigcheck in hekate_ipl.ini to bypass sig checks or we’re you thinking of something else?
