    1. Is there any guide that explain what not to do online when in CFW emuNand state?

    2. Stock Sysnand to play online? What is the purpose of this option?

    3. Purpose of CFW sysNand?

    1. Generally you should avoid going online with CFW
    2. Stock boots you into a state similar to OFW but bypasses fuse checks
    3. The purpose of CFW - SysNAND is to launch CFW on SysNAND

Does anyone know how to get a game (physical or digital, whichever is safest) onto an emuMMC for the purposes of launching the homebrew menu with more RAM? All my games require a download or patch because I didn't move any of them over with my emuMMC (didn't think I needed to). I downloaded Retroarch, but it crashes when launching the app via homebrew menu via the album. Can I just copy the data from my sysMMC to my emuMMC? How can I tell which game it is?Thanks.

I was going to post this in the Switch emulation section, but there seems to be no master thread there like this.

Lunching CFW SysNAND sounds dangerous, I would not do it. Why did they put that option in there...

Ok since we're not sure how Nintendo ban console, I guess my best option is:

use CFW emunand [OFFLINE] for save editing purpose,
then stock sysnand to play online.

to prevent accidental online connection, I will clear registered online networks every time, so that even if i forget to do airplane mode, the console can't connect on its own.

Also if i play pirated game, I will disable automatic save-data backup

edit: thank u for the response:)

edit2: ok actually...still not sure, i need to know how people are doing cheats on ACNH and still not banned. worst case i'll get another switch:/

    ok this is interesting:)

After deleting all the wifi networks, and then enabling airplane mode, there two additional measures that you can take.

    1) install Incognito onto the emuMMC side.

    2) Then also use Atmosphere v12 and create SD:/exosphere.ini with the following line in it:
    blank_prodinfo_emummc=1

    Redundancy is awesome no?

The recommendations were to have a fully formatted card before creating the emunand, but I already had 2 partitions on it. Probably that's what messed up SX OS trying to create emunand. As of writing this, I'm giving it another go, now with the micro sd card as clean as it gets. I'll post/edit my results in due time.

If the worst case scenario happens, it is a good idea to have a file-based emunand? I mean, I could always create backups of my save files every now and then, so I don't mind having to install everything should my sd card die. But everywhere I read, people treat having it file-based as a last resort.

Edit: Same error again. I'm doomed to not have an emunand!

Edit2: Out of curiosity, I tried to boot Stock (Sysnand) and it hangs on a black screen. Is my Switch bricked? Or is my nand corrupted?

A physical game just requires you to insert the cartridge while you are booted in emuMMC.

emuMMC didn't always exist so launching CFW on sysMMC was the only way to launch CFW. Plus there are some things you can only perform with CFW on sysMMC such as updating without burning fuses or using ChoiDujourNX.

What happens if you try launching CFW on sysMMC?

One minor point of clarification here since this is the noob thread...

ChoiDujourNX cannot update sysNAND OFW while running on emuMMC. ChoiDujourNX must run on sysNAND in order to update sysNAND.

ChoiDujourNX CAN be run on emuMMC, but doing so will only update the emuMMC's firmware, hence the (still mostly edge-case) need for SysNAND CFW.

    Edit:
Obviously the clarification is not for you Drax, but for others.

Thanks for all the help. So.. if I do not connect to the network at all and I don't plan to go online whatsoever, can I continue to run play games, emulators, etc on CFW SysNAND and not mess with EmuMMC?

But all my physical games require a patch on emuMMC. That's the problem. HWDE is in my Switch and it requires a patch on emuMMC (which I can't download because I can't connect to Ninty servers)

It booted! I mean I suppose my console is forever tainted for doing that. Also Sysnand booted fine!

Ok, perhaps I should point this out, but my Switch is faulty.
    1. Dock mode doesn't work anymore (it's not the dock, as a friend's Switch works just fine).
    2. My Switch's internal SD card reader fails to detect the card every now and then. I have to wait 4 o 5 days (weeks, even) for my Switch to start detecting it again. It's something I can't control. But I ruled this out as the culprit since I've injecting payloads without any issue. I don't know if my switch handles the sd card differently than when booting CFW or Sysnand.

Right now, I'm copying my previous setup backup back to the micro sd card, to see if it boots emunand again. If it doesn't work, would it be better to just do a NAND restore?

Edit: I'll just delete the backup. It just doesn't work. Also when trying to create emunand on my sd card, and fails as usual, sysnand won't boot again. I have to delete both partitions, recreate them and format to be able to load Sysnand.

Edit 2: When trying to create a file-based emunand, it gives me the following error: Fatal error (1) when writing to SD card. Maybe creating emunand on 10.0.1 is just unstable.

    A few followup questions

1 - I just updated my FW from 8.1 to 9.2 using the suggested method without burning fuses. My current fuse info is-

    Burnt Fuses (0DM 7/6): 12 - 0

    Does that look right?

2 - Where is a legit place to buy/sell Switch consoles with CFW?

3 - I have RCMloader on my Switch with AtlasNX/Kosmos. I don't have autoboot enabled but it goes right to the Hekate loader when I hard reboot my system. Am I missing something there?

You can download the update illegally from the Internet and install it in emuMMC. Or maybe just install the homebrew menu as a .NSP file

    1. You burnt fuses. How did you update?
    2. eBay, Aliexpress, Amazon, GBATemp, etc.
    3. The Hekate what?

1 - That is what the fuse reading was before I updated the firmware. I used ChoiDujourNX. I was more curious what those readings meant exactly. Also, as I test, I downgraded to 8.1 and back to 9.2 and the fuse readings remained the same.

2 - I have seen listing for CFW consoles/handhelds removed from eBay years ago. Are they more common now? Amazon requires authorization to sell Nintendo products and they are not accepting new applications.

3 - Sorry for the lack of vocabulary here since I am new to Switch hacking. When I power on my switch, with or without my RCMLoader inserted, I get the Hekate boot menu (Boot CFW from SysNAND, Boot CFW from EmuMMC, Boot Stock etc). I thought if you booted without RCMLoader, it went to stock and burnt fuses. Maybe I am way off here... Thanks for your patience.

    1. You read the number next to the 0 which in this case is 12 but that indicates a firmware of 9.1-9.2 which would be impossible before the update unless you downgraded. For reference, a list of fuse counts and their respective firmware versions can be found here. Also did you disable AutoRCM with ChoiDujourNX?
    2. eBay is a hotspot for used items
    3. What do you mean when you said you power on your Switch without your RCMLoader, you get the Hekate boot menu? Do you mean sending a payload without your RCMLoader? The bypassing of fuse burning is done through always booting the console through RCM which AutoRCM helps with

1 - Ahhh ok. I got this Switch used and it was already hacked with FW 8.1 but maybe it was already 9.1-9.2 and they downgraded it. So I'm good. It's been steady at 12 since with all my FW upgrade/downgrade tests. ANd no, I didn't disable AUtoRCM with Choi. I just noticed when I look at the Hekate options on boot, AutoRCM is disabled.

2 - Ok, I remember listing hacked Wii U's a few years ago and the posts were removed due to copyright even though.. modded hardware doesn't infringe copyright. That is why I was confused.

3 - Yes, I mean, if I were to hard power down/power on my Switch without the RCMloader device plugged in and boot to RCM, would it burn a fuse? I don't want to find out the hard way.

Well, nothing worked in the long run (even downloaded sx os' latest version that was released today) when creating emunand, so CFW(Sysnand) is my only option right now. I don't have access to a different sd card to try, but if I do, I'll restore my nand and restart the entire process.

Thanks @Draxzelex for all the help, but hot damn I've had enough of this.

    Have a nice day.

Fuses are only burnt when the console is turned on normally so long as you always boot the console through RCM, you will not burn additional fuses. This is why enabling AutoRCM effectively prevents fuses from being burnt; it ensures the console never boots normally and only launches into RCM.
