So I'm not exactly a newbie with Switch hacking but I'm certainly no expert, and I'm a bit stuck after attempting to update Atmosphere to 1.7.1 so I can update my emummc cfw to 18.1 on my unpatched switch.

I was previously on 18.0.1 and 1.7.0 without issues. I downloaded and copied the AMS 1.7.1 and sigfiles files to my SD, attempted to boot into emummc via hekate injected bin > launch > emummc

I figured maybe I need a newer hekate (i was on a pretty old version) so updated to the latest bootloader files, injected the latest hekate and still stuck at switch logo when booting via injecting hekate > launch > emummc. If I attempt to inject the latest fusee directly, or via payload option in hekate I also get stuck at the switch logo.

I can launch just fine in sysmmc semi stock, or sysmmc cfw, but not my emummc. I'm thinking I might have to rebuild it but really don't want to unless there are no other options.

is there any other troubleshooting steps I can try or any suggestions anyone has for me?

You should be able to continue using your existing emummc.
Sometimes it helps to rename the bootloader and switch folder to something else and start off with a fresh install of Hekate and Atmosphere.
Also note that there might be an old payload.bin somewhere else on your SD card.
It should be in the bootloader folder but since you can change the location of that file in the settings, it might actually be somewhere else.
