Switch firmware version 19.0.0 released, breaks compatibility with Atmosphere

swithchchchc.png

A brand new system software update has been released. Nintendo has just put out a milestone firmware release for the Nintendo Switch, bringing the OFW to 19.0.0. Despite the version number, it seems that this new update is purely focused on stability. That means support for custom firmware Atmosphere has been broken for now, with SciresM planning on fixing things in the next few days.

Thanks to a good friend, this was rescued from an ex-girlfriend house:

Tested on FW 18.1.0 and FW 19.0.1 Working fine, but I think is because this adapter have a switch for Switch mode and other for WiiU mode, the WiiU mode do not work on Switch console.

I think the «Switch» mode is The WiiU because my PC get the VID 057e / PID 0337 which is the WiiU controller, and the other side of the switch is PC mode, you know the fellow buddies from China are sometimes a little hard to understand.

Wii U and Switch mode should be the same mode. I also have an adapter that has "PC - Switch", and the Switch mode works on my Wii U (Smash 4), while the "PC" mode works on Nintendont and other homebrew apps

Weird, no one here in this thread mentioned having problems with their batteries being drained lightning fast or their consoles overheating with 19.0.0.
I've seen some reports but didn't firmware 19.0.1 fixed those issues? I haven't noticed anything weird going on on either of my Switches.

I've heard lots of different opinions regarding 19.0.1 and I've asked in lots of different places because I'm really hesitant to updating. I'm quite paranoid about overheating my Switch because sounds like it could REALLY damage the hardware.

No battery draining super fast or extreme overheating? Have you used them a lot lately?
None whatsoever. I usually Animal Crossing and some other game (Slay the Princess, Emio or The Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom) for 2 hours or so tops. I've updated to the 19.0.1 a week or so ago (I've skipped the update 19.0.0, though). While I'm not using any hardware monitoring app, if I go into hbmenu I can see the CPU temperature which is around 50°C shortly after quitting the game. I've also been playing Moving Out with my girlfriend with the Switch docked and the Switch was never too hot to the touch when I was to remove it from the dock after our play session. My Switch even has a PlayVital's protective case which might make it a bit hotter due to the heat possibly absorbed by the outer shell. Note that I'm also not doing any kind of overclocking/underclocking or similar. Just playing games and that's all. I've charged it 20 or so hours ago to the 100% and didn't touch it until now and it's on 98%. It's the unpatched Erista model if that's even relevant. So far I have a around 700 hours of playtime on the Switch (my rough estimate is around 70% docked, 30% handheld mode).

That's about all the info I can give you. :D I will monitor the battery level and CPU temperature today to see if it'll behave any different than usual and report back.

Is 50c normal for the Switch?
In any case your experience makes me feel a bit relaxed, if I update now I'd also have skipped 19.0.0 entirely.

Thanks for taking your time to explain it all.

Almost two weeks later and, from what I can tell, no noticeable issues on the latest CFW setup. I even played more in handheld mode than usual to see if the battery levels will be different but nothing really noticeable. I'd say that it's as safe and stable as it can get at this point.
