Super Smash Bros. Ultimate gets Nintendo Labo VR support in new update

Nintendo has released an update to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, bringing the game to version 3.1.0, allowing you to use the game with the Nintendo Labo VR Kit. Experience Smash Bros. in a whole new way with VR, through seeing offline matches through the Toy-Con Goggles. You can either fight versus up to three other CPU fighters in timed battles, or just watch the AI fight against each other, while you view from a slightly zoomed in camera angle. To use the Labo VR Kit with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, all you need to do is update to the latest version, and select "VR" from the Games & More menu.

  • Offline
    • You can use the Toy-Con VR Goggles to enjoy Smash in VR mode via the Games & More menu.
      • VR mode is a single-player experience only.
      • The Toy-Con VR Goggles are sold separately as part of the Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 04: VR Kit or the Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 04: VR Kit – Starter Set + Blaster.
      • This is shown on Nintendo Labo’s page as well: https://www.nintendo.co.jp/labo/with_toy-con/
  • Online
    • FPs can be used in Battle Arenas.
    • An option to send amiibo out on journeys has been added, through which FPs go on a journey to train via the internet. You can find it via Games & More → amiibo → Send on a Journey.
    • Some of the preferred rules for Quickplay battles have been adjusted.
  • General
    • Game balance adjustments have been made.
    • Several issues have been fixed to improve gameplay experience.

Why would anyone buy into this unless it's for a child? It's not even technically VR whatsoever. It's like those worthless $20 "VR" devices from Wal-Mart that you stick your phone in. Garbage.
If we use the word "technically", then yes, this is "technically" VR. Pixar's movies are "technically" VR. Any video game is "technically" VR. The definition of "virtual reality" is way broader than what we call VR nowadays.

"Technically", you're wrong. Because you know EXACTLY what type of VR I'm referring to.

Since I allegedly know which definition of VR you're using, then yes, this is VR. The user can interact with a virtual world while its visual sense is completely overridden with the virtual world. There's also the orientation and hearing sense that is partially overridden with the virtual world.

Unless you mean VR like every sense is overriden, but we never achieved that in any way, have we?

They have FSR or whatever it's called and yeah it's still not great
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
so AMD seem to finally be starting to take AI seriously
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Oh yeah those new 8000 CPUs have AI cores built in that's interesting
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Maybe they plan on offloading to the CPU?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Would be kinda cool to have the CPU and GPU working in random more
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Tandem even
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
LLMs can be run on cpu anyway but it's quite slow

Have you ever been beaten by a wet spaghetti noodle by your girlfriend because she has a twin sister, and you got confused and fucked her dad?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I had a girlfriend who had a twin sister and they would mess with me constantly.... Until one chipped a tooth then finally I could tell them apart.... Lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They would have the same hair style the same clothes everything... Really messed with my head lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
you've seen how much intel is struggling getting into the gpu market
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
and nvidia is already doing ARM
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think they want to take more focus away from their gpus
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah I think Nvidia s future lays in AI GPU acceleration stuff if they can get that going it's going to be super interesting in the long term
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
AI assisted game creation might become a thing

At least that's something I think would be pretty cool.
