I wish to learn Japanese, however I've seen so many recommendations out there that IDEK what to choose (and the 'good-looking' ones are so expensive ;-;)

Does anyone have any recommendations here? (And does anyone have any old textbooks they'd like to gift to me? ;) )

Check the textbook section in the first post here:

And my suggestion is to either go to a library to check out some of the textbooks, or download a less legal copy to try them out. If you seem to like one, stick to it and buy a copy.
Textbooks ARE expensive, and if some books are cheap - there's often a good reason for it.

Genki I & II should be a decent enough start, but you might also want to combine it with some kind of kanji practice book once you've gone through Genki I.
