By the looks of it, looks like a powered USB port? Yup, I think that's what it is.

What kinds of devices use that tho? Also, am I supposed to be able to plug standard USB into that? Thanks

It is a female powered USB port and no, you can't plug in a USB port into that port.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powered_USB

A device that uses a powered USB port uses both the powered USB port and the USB 2.0 port below it.
That would make sense, seeing that it it belonged to the US Army before I got possession of it... (no, not joking, it really was)...

Wow, you learn something new every day. Not just the whole discovery of Powered USB ports, but also Power over Ethernet systems (that was linked within the Wiki). I've always thought it was a good idea and should've been done already... now I know it has!

Project Natal/Kinect may use the powered USB Port? Apparantly the Slim will not need an external power point for Natal/Kinect... Anyway...

OnTopic:

So these ports are becoming more common? Will they be truly standardised, or just kept commercial?

That must be rough. Productive I'm sure but hard to balance with daily life

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though

@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
