You might have to do something for it to work. Search Google.
I wouldn't recommend these homebrew DDR games though, because none of them have the music-sync-beat-rhythm thing. It's just music playing and random steps.

If you can play GBA games check out:

1205 - Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch (J)
1426 - Mermaid Melody - Pichi Pichi Picchi Pichi Pichitto Live Start (J)
1347 - Minna No Ojisama (J)
(All by Konami)

The Mermaid Melody games are basically DDR/Beatmania with songs from the Mermaid Melody anime - there are some half decent songs in there and the game has full vocals too, but the step charts are a bit naff (after all they're working with J-Pop songs). Gameplay video here.

Minna No Ojisama is basically a collection of minigames staring Prince of Tennis characters, you can unlock a DDR style minigame, visually it's a bit more faithful to DDR than Mermaid Melody with proper arrow graphics. In the minigame you can play 10 (?) or so different midi songs (all if I recall based on Prince of Tennis Songs?).
