Steam's Autumn Sale begins today

QXVuYUn.png

As is tradition, the annual Steam Autumn Sale has kicked off. Hundreds upon thousands of games find themselves discounted in hopes of convincing gamers to add them to their ever-increasing backlog. This year, the Autumn Sale will last from November 25th to December 1st, where you can not only purchase games, but also vote for them in The Steam Awards, which will net you a Steam badge for your efforts. There are also new Fall-themed items in the recently-launched Points Shop, which lets you outfit your profile in various backgrounds and banners.

I apparently have 5,500 Steam points. It says I can use them to buy games, but I can't remember seeing an option to use it in the few small things I've bought recently like when I pre-ordered Kombat Pack 2 for MK11. Is it just for those cards that every game comes with?

I'm also going to assume the full Valve Index kit still costs $999?

Anyway, I don't really ever buy anything on Steam or know what's good on it, any recommendations?
It probably just pulls genres from the list of steam tags, and that one's a fairly common tag. Anyway, a game that I personally like:

Rabi-Ribi, a metroidvania game with bullet hell elements. One of my favorite metroidvania games (though I do like bullet hell stuff). There's also a switch and PS4 port if you'd rather play it on that. The story is bad and the characters are extremely anime but the gameplay more than makes up for it.

Yeah I don’t think you can buy games with steam points. It’s just for emotes and awarding reviews. It’s like discord nitro but not a scam.

Ugh...that time of year again? I'm still pondering whether or not I should pick up humble choice and/or fanatical killer bundle. And my backlog itself just keeps growing even if it doesn't grow (read: tabletop simulator just poops out great content all on its own :P ).

Anyway, I don't really ever buy anything on Steam or know what's good on it, any recommendations?
Erm...that obviously depends on your taste. From my own (weird) taste, I post my best games I've played of that year (linky to last year). From those, celeste and the messenger stand out as great indie platformers, opus magnus if you're into puzzles and race for the galaxy if you're okay with digital board games. As to what's new and shiney, I'll leave that up to others...

Does anybody get excited for these sales anymore? I basically have everything I would ever want to get on sale, and the discounts on anything new that I would want are usually tiny or non-existent.
The hype for these died out a few years ago. valve started doing more steam sales per year, which means less games get put on sale compared to back when they used to only do a huge summer and winter sale. It feels like every other month there's a "big" sale which doesn't really have all too much to offer because of it

Yeah, my least favourite category.
As for recommendations, I'd suggest Okami HD, Persona 4 Golden, Henry Stickmin Collection, and a few others.

i once exploited a flaw in the balance of currency conversion and made money, in the process i made over 100k steam points, i still have like 69k, as for something more on topic, last sale i bought a bunch of games so i probably wont spend any more, that, and it's been speculated the 10th csgo operation will be released arround this time, and i need the balance to get it if it happens, its not out of the question, last year's also started near a sale Edit: i got the temporal background as well as some new frames and backgrounds

But Okami has a female protagonist. :O

Not necessarily excited, I just buy the stuff from my wish list that's finally got an acceptable discount. I certainly can't complain about $20 for DOOM Eternal or $15 for the Ori sequel.

Okami has a wolf protagonist. There's a difference.
That DOOM price is quite nice; I just wish the game was better, y'know? No limited-time skins (make them always available somehow), no forced Bethesda.net login, no need to play the crappy multiplayer for weekly challenges, etc. Decent game; 2016 was better, though.
