  • If you want a more portable experience, get the Steam Deck. You can save the rest of your money to potentially buy other things, like more games.
  • If you want to have better performance and play heavier games, then get a gaming laptop.
Either way, it depends on what you want from them.

With 700 you can get the oled.. I have the regular one, don't really care about getting an oled. I mostly use my gaming PC still, haven't touched my steamdeck in a few months but it is nice.

I'm not sure about prices nowadays, but gaming laptops where I live were more expensive than gaming desktops with somewhat similar specs. Gaming desktops tend to be more reliable, so I'd rather get a gaming desktop than gaming laptop. Assuming you'll use your laptop for gaming only (or mainly) and you'd like to have portability, I'd suggest getting a Steam Deck instead of gaming laptop, unless you can find a good gaming laptop at that price.

I've never really liked gaming laptops and would suggest against them. They occupy an awkward space where they 1) have drastically reduced portability due to their large size, heavy weight, hot operation, and poor battery life, and 2) tend to have lower performance than a similarly priced desktop, because squeezing all of that hardware into a "slim" form factor comes at a premium. They're not great at being laptops due to the former, and they're not great at being gaming machines due to the latter.

IMO - buy the cheapest tier refurbished LCD Steam Deck that you can buy on Steam, then spend another $120 or so to buy a 2TB Western Digital SN740 off AliExpress and replace the nvme disk with that

I said no to a desktop because I do want portability but what about compatibility also I have a laptop that I am keeping my eyes on for $699

I'm on the Steam Deck bandwagon. Then again I'm an early adopter (like very early / first batch). I LOVE my deck and having it along with my Switch, Logitech G Cloud and Wii U have been my holy foursome of gaming!

Thanks. Most people are saying steam deck so I'll look into it I guess.
