for the past year or so, there hasn't been a day where i haven't played/sat with the computer everyday for at least 1 hour.
now it's a normal schoolweek and i'm on my laptop at least 5 hours a day, typing, gaming, ....

sometimes i feel my hands (especially right hand, both typing and mousehand) tingling, a bit of pain.the joints in it also crack very often, don't know if that matters.
i think it's beginning to look like rsi.... i've already googled it, and the things i read didn't make me happy. my laptop should be flat, and right in front of me, so my wrists are straight forward, and not bended.
MY laptop is on a stand for the heat, so my wrists have been typing upwards for years, and my right hand is also slighty bended in an L form, because else i can't reach my laptop.....

how can I prevent RSI? it's not here completely, but i have no doubt that if i keep working like this, it'll happen.

Simple I have two paths you can take :D
[title:Path One]
1. Keep on posting threads with lots of typing involved
2. Get answer and reply
3. Increase the likelihood of RSI by commenting on own thread
4. Finally get told to go to doctor
5. Go to doctor and get told you have RSI
[title:Path Two]
1. Stop making these threads about obvious injuries
2. Go to doctor and fix before something bad happens

Cracking sounds from your joints are no big deal. It has something to do with Nitrogen bubbles than the actual rubbing of the joints itself or something. Can't really remember exactly, but what I did remember is that it should be fine.

Sounds like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome should worry you more. Just cut down on the time you spend on your computer and you'll be fine. Alternatively, use a gamepad to play your games on the computer if possible because it will strain different muscles and ligaments.

That or hire a hobo to type on your behalf. Eitherway, try to restrict the time you spend on the computer. Speech to text technology could help you out too

I don't know anything about this but I remember mentioning the mighty @FAST6191 it a few weeks ago on the forums, he was also starting to fear it. Maybe he can explain it further (this guy is very smart/thorough, he probably has something worked out already)

EDIT: Goddamnit mentioning fucked up.... Hopefully he'll see this, ever.

If your wrists hurt then you have the wrong posture when typing or using the mouse. Keep your wrist straight. Buy a pad for your keyboard and mouse if you cannot keep it up. Heh.

This one is excellent.

I would definitely recommend getting yourself a real keyboard and mouse. The notebook is good for travel, but horrible as a desktop replacement.

As others have said speak to a doctor or if you know one a sports therapist, chiropractor or something similar as that is much of their stock and trade (I do not have many nice things to say about the RSI consultants but that is probably just related to consultants in general)- the others were not trolling as medical advice beyond go see a doctor is really all the internet is good for unless you are a medic yourself. Being still at school you have a better chance than most but I have seen people barely make it out of their mid twenties before stuff gets very real and I have heard of worse so no time like the present and all that.

I will however note laptops are probably the worst possible thing you can have for this- when typing your arms are probably in the worst position along with your neck and shoulders looking at the screen so be prepared to spring for a nice keyboard, mouse and possibly monitor (maybe a box instead but you will just be using it as a monitor). Laptops are great if you move about a lot (business trips and what have you) and as much as I dislike them in general I agree they are useful things but if you have to do real work on one then docking station or an arrangement like the one just mentioned or nothing really. There is quite a bit more to it than this but those aforementioned medics will be able to tell you what goes here.
Equally the internet and things a computer allows you to do are fascinating and many people should do more but you probably have a few devices more than capable of acting as text readers and more than a few devices capable of playing video on the go so to that end also consider sidelining the laptop and using one of those for a couple of hours instead.

well soon after i read a few of these replies I bought myself an external keyboard and new, bigger/comfortable mouse. it's definitely an improvement. feels much better, have a lot less ache in my wrist. still not perfect though.
i'm working as a postman atm as a holidayjob, and if i'm not doing that i'm on a pc, so my wrist is really working overtime atm. working as a postman is really wrist-intensive, and my wrist literally only rests when i sleep. I regularly feel it aching, and just hurting a little bit.

so yeah, I'm wondering what i can do to strenghten my wrist, or to relax it more? I've got a powerball here somewhere
