Most people will be like "use search function" and "there's been a similar thread before".
Enjoy reading those 300+ pages starting in 2016

If your search results are 300 pages you are doing it wrong, either by not refining it or that it is so common that any one of those will probably do.

Generally though nobody is punished for a good faith effort in either direction. Bumping a 2008 thread to say "I agree" or "good game" is probably not going to get you far but make a bit of effort and have a genuine problem, same if you start a new thread. This also assumes such threads are not almost timeless -- the games released years ago will probably be the same forever more and thus a ROM hacking thread tends to be relevant there, and most times flash carts/custom firmwares/homebrew have a bit of a lull before getting rare and people coming back with modern tech and approaches to have some fun again.

To clarify myself: "reading those 300+ pages" was meant to refer to those individual "similar thread" the search function brought up.

Theres so many old threads where its really hard to actually find that info you are looking for.
