Dylan Cuthbert (Argonaut, EAD, currently founder and head of Q-Games, the Pixeljunk guys) talks about the multiplayer mode for Star Fox 64. It's nothing really important but does confirm bots for offline multiplayer and a reason why there's no online multiplayer.

Cool, I guess but no online is still disappointing. At least we get to try out the mode in some form [IMG]. Oh well, I have my PC for online games and the Single Player makes up for it.

Playing against bots is never like playing against real people. Either way, you are still just playing the game against the computer. It doesn't make up for leaving out what should be a core feature in a game such as this.

Who is EAD? Is there some power at be that is neither the Developer nor Nintendo who has a say in what games get online play?

Thanks, looks like they only work on big 1st party names. Baffling that they are taking it out after Star Fox Command. Online Starfox could be the proper evolution of the series and we'll never get to know. I like the comment about people looking at pictures of people in the same room as them.

Had that game been a lot better more people would have played the online part.

i'm sure there will be a way later (hack of some sorts) that can make online multiplayer available

Well that's crap. What's the point of video 'chat' (?) if you're in the same room as them...
This was definitely NOT the right thing to do.

God why does Nintendo still not get it? How many people actually have so many friends with a 3DS and with this game, and when can they ever get over? It never happens with me, I have 3 friends with a DS and a flashcard but they never get here due to jobs and school and shit.

Excuses. All they have to do is search 'No online in Star Fox 3DS' to see the backlash that it's caused...

(For the benefit for those interested in this game at least)
I'd rather they delay the game and add online features.

How the hell was that a valid reason? Unless I'm reading it wrong, he's just brushing the thing off by going "OH DERP WE PUT IT IN SFC BUT PEOPLE DON'T PLAY FOR THE ONLINE, GO BLAME EAD FOR NO ONLINE PLAY"
I really can't see how online play couldn't be implemented for this game, someone enlighten me please.

    WTH!?
What's the point of that video feature then?
If I wanted to see my friends reaction I'll walk up to them and stare them in the face.

And I pretty much ONLY played Star Fox Command online.

To be honest, I don't get why people care about online on handhelds. You've pretty much got to be at home to play online (I don't know if you've ever tried to play a game over public wifi, but don't bother) which kind of negates the portability aspect.

    LOL, exactly my thoughts [IMG].
What would be the point of the video feature in Wireless play [IMG].

Unless bots have a God Mode setting, offline multiplayer being the only method of getting extra play time is a huge value killer.
