    What do you prefer?
Which one is better to use?

(standby is yellow, complete power off is red)

I prefer standby. I like being able to get messages while the system is off.

I prefer completely off if just for the fact that the Wii stays really hot even on standby.

I just use standby because I usually use the remote to do so, whereas I'd have to get up to power off.

To completely turn off, you power for 4 seconds correct? (on console)

Standby, the Wii actually buzzes less loud for some reason then when it's off. And it still powers the USB Battery Charger.
    Also unplugged, that's even better.

If you turn off Wiiconnect24, it completely turns off every time, even from the wiimote

I had my Wii set to standby, but noticed it got incredibly hot during the summer. I then set my Wii to turn off, but soon missed the functionality of the Weather & News channel which require Wii Connect 24, thus standby, to be enabled. To have the best of both worlds, use of the Weather & News Channel and a cool Wii, I installed PriiLoader and enabled the Ignore Standby setting.

Standby is a better deal overall if your Wii doesn't overheat (mine hardly does).

Completely off here. I never use messages or internet channels (I'd remove those things if I could be arsed), and I only enable my wifi when I really need it so there's no point, really.

Also: my wii, along with my tv and computer, are in my bedroom, which I prefer it to be dark at night. Unfortunately, hardware developers nowadays think it's fun to put LEDs on all their devices that tells people their device is turned off. I have to use a power switch to prevent my room from looking like a red light district. [IMG]

Oh, and it saves on my electricity bill. Like...0.00001 euro per year or something. I heard standby uses more power, but I doubt it'll be that much of a difference.

The GPUs are prone to over heating resulting in dots or artifacts in textures. I would rather err on the side of caution and turn it off.

Completely off, mainly because I almost never use the lame ass message system.

Almost never? Its fookin shite! Friendcodes were always destined for failure. It wouldn't be so bad if you had just one, but the fact that every single different game with every different mii gives you a different code.
    Proper shite!

Wiiconnect24 = Absoloutly nothing of any value

Any wii sent messages could be sent easier via email, updates? umm hello, hacks, we don't want updates.
    The news/weather/nintendo/shop/mario kart channels?
News = The real news on tv, Wii news is fookin shite!
Weather = Look outside or again, on tv 24 hours a day on the weather channel, online, on the radio, LOOK UP
Nintendo Channel = Has anybody ever found anything useful on this channel? Its just like an advert isn't it for nintendo stuff which anybody can look at on nintendo's website/gamespot/here
Shop Channel = WTF could you want to possibly buy? Nand emulation anyone therefore on a hacked console, completely unneeded
Mario kart Channel = For the so called tournaments which virtually never happen. Just join a mario kart forum or get some regular players to go against, the channel is REALLLLY not worth putting your console through extra heat when its off and potentially damaging the GPU.

Although I will say, Wiiconnect24 I have only ever seen fuck up a GPU on an almost launch date wii. So the problem may be fairly fixed in newer models but I don't know. Still a waste of time and electric/bandwidth though [IMG]

    1. gets hot on standby
    2. can eceive the message anytime, which i honestly don't care about

the only reason i wouldn't turn it off completely if i'm playing in bed, get sleepy and got no feeling to jump out of bed and turn it off

I prefer to unplug consoles when I'm not using them. The Wii doesn't worry me but my Xbox 360 and Ps2 do.

How do you completely shut off your system? Hold the power button for 4 seconds, or just unplug it?

Hold power if you have wiiconnect24 on. If you don't have it enabled it will automatically do it with one press

Believe me, I don't need to be convinced of the suckage of those damned FC's! FFS what were Nintendo thinking when they put that in the DS and even worse, the Wii?!
So stupid, I'm so jealous on the PS3/360 online....
