Square Enix unveils two new Final Fantasy mobile games, one of which is a remake of FFVII

Is one remake of Final Fantasy VII not enough for you? Square Enix seems to think so, with the announcement of Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis. The company revealed two different Final Fantasy mobile games, one of which is a prequel to FFVII, while the other is an all-encompassing remake of all FFVII related stories. Final Fantasy: The First Soldier is a battle royale with a story that takes place 30 years before the start of VII. It's a third-person shooter where you must defeat all other opponents in order to become the first SOLDIER. Releasing for iOS and Android, it'll be available worldwide sometime in 2021.

More traditional fans may be interested in Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis, which takes everything Final Fantasy VII related--Dirge of Cerberus, Advent Children, Crisis Core, and more--and compiles it in a chapter-based RPG that retells it all from start to finish. Less information was given about this game, but it'll be on mobile platforms in 2022, with a trailer showcasing the graphics and a brief look at the presumably turn-based battle system.

In addition, today SQUARE ENIX announced two exciting new mobile games set in the FINAL FANTASY VII world. FINAL FANTASY VII THE FIRST SOLDIER is a battle royal action game set in Midgar before the events of FINAL FANTASY VII. As a SOLDIER candidate, the player will make full use of their magic and abilities in a battle for their survival. FINAL FANTASY VII EVER CRISIS is a chapter-structured single player experience which will cover the whole of the FFVII timeline, including the events of the original game along with all the FFVII compilation titles, as well as new story elements, penned by FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE story and scenario writer Kazushige Nojima, surrounding the origins of SOLDIER. More information on these two mobile games, FINAL FANTASY VII THE FIRST SOLDIER and FINAL FANTASY VII EVER CRISIS, will be announced at a later date.

I was always interested in the Before Crisis but since it never came to the west, it just fell into the back of my mind until today. Looks interesting and I'm a big fan of turn-based RPGs, so I'll probably check it out.

Curious if it will cost money for the whole thing, free-to-play or have most of the content behind a paywall like Super Mario Run.

This is like some twisted shitty alternative version of FF VII. What a time to be alive. Square Enix shit on my childhood once again.

So you give us a prequel to FF7 but put it on mobile phones?

Who came up with that genius idea?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I would think there would be plenty of money to be made in just re-releasing Crisis Core with minimal alterations.

Yeah it wasn't bad. Kind of wonder if it's not related as this one is called "Ever Crisis"

This is the real classic remake. But i hope the Ever Crisis is not an online game since online games shut down their servers few years after.

If they release a game compilation, it should be future proof and always available for everybody to play without the need of being always online.

Maybe they release this game on mobile because anyone have an access to mobile phone compared to switch... but i hope they can port it to every console since the graphics is not that demanding.

Bluestacks, man. Bluestacks xD.

Seriously, though, been waiting for a real FF7 remake for too long. I hope 8 and 9 get similar treatment as well down the road; the PS1 games really needed some QoL improvements.

That mobile FFVII looks amazing. I never wanted a 7 remake (I like the pre-rendered backgrounds way too much), but if they had made it when it was due (10 years ago) I’d have hoped it would look like that.

Hopefully after all of the episodes are released in a few years they’ll port a compilation to the Switch 2 or whatever the new hotness is.

Well...I'd be very interested in Ever Crisis if it were coming to any actual gaming platform. Not so much for the core FF7 content, but for all the side content which I really haven't played much of. Hopefully they at least announce a Switch version before release, since it would be the easiest port from mobile (what with ARM architecture and all).

This is such a weird deal. VIIR diverges enough from the original (like Rebuild of Evangelion?), a traditional story remake makes sense.
However VIIR attracted people like me who never played the original due to not liking the gameplay, so is this a good solution?
Is it smart to put Crisis Core and Advent Children in the same style too? Maybe they wanted to tweak some elements in them

I mean, if no-one can buy a PS5, and thus is stuck with PS4 (Pros), then companies would still see some profit from developing PS4 games with PS5 upgrades; meanwhile, if they developed a PS5 game, then everyone who can't get that console won't buy that game, especially at launch.
