Some of our popular Square Enix DS games might not be released outside of Japan. Depends on what Square Enix feels like.

Siliconera did an interview with Square Enix's CEO Yoichi Wada about localizing some of their more "minor" DS releases (minor meaning NOT their main FF, Dragon Quest, or Kingdom Hearts games). It was at the FF 13 launch party for the US, but they discussed other games coming to America as well. The answer is what i personally would interpret as "don't count on it", but here is the original quote to interpret yourself-

So interpret that anyway you see fit. For me though, i kind of see that as a doubtful statement. Sounds like Square Enix wasn't happy with those games' sales figures and aren't keep to bring them overseas. I know they're very popular among fans, so i imagine some people will be sad to hear this if it's true.

Blood of Bahamut is purely crap anyway.
If they don't localize it, it will get translated anyway.

this is not very good news cuz all of these games were amazing... i wonder why though?
is it cuz they are caring less for the DS since a newer DS is coming out or cuz they are working on other consoles such as the PSP and PS3? or is it cuz the cost of translating is great?

GAWD, what is with Japanese game developers these days? Selfish bastards! They won't even do it for teh munniez anymore. Seriously, wa need to hang a sign in front of SE's eyes that has our plan written on it:
    1: Make a great game
2: Release it outside of Japan
    3: People buy it
    4: MUNNIEZ!!!11!1!

That would mostly be the case, which would be the reason NOT to localize them.

I have no emotional investment in this either way, but I think that would be a mistake on S-E's part. It took them four years to make Final Fantasy XIII, and in that time they had almost no viable console games. The DS, as far as I can tell, is pretty much what keeps them afloat in between large releases. They're cheap to produce (in comparison to console games), and even cheaper to localize. The more they pump out, the better off they'll be.

very unfortunate news, Square enix is, usually, an amazing developer, storylines in their games cannot be beat.

true but these days SE is too busy working on Versus XIII, XIV and pandering to FFVII fanboys/fangirls on about whether or not to remake that game

Ha, well, I doubt they're the same teams. 360 and DS development aren't exactly similar. [IMG] Even so though, all the more reason to release more DS games. The thing about working on these long elaborate FF titles? They're not exactly making any money while that happens. Now, I'm no corporate mogul, but I'd imagine 4 years without revenue = bad. And I really wanted to play them in English -sob-, well luckily CN is already translating SaGa 2 and that project is going well so I won't worry about that one... But we want the other too~!

I just realized i forgot to add the source, terribly sorry. Added now. [IMG]

Anyways, Blood of Bahamut at least was a rather disappointing game IMHO. The videos left everyone with a sort of "Shadow of the Colossus" feel to it. In the end though, i felt it was a rather generic run of the mill action RPG. Nothing really interesting at all. It was pretty to be sure though. Has the SE-style, which is always nice.

The other games are pretty fun though. Sad to see any of them not come to the US really, all of them have fans here. It's not like it would cost much to localize them anyways. They'd probably make a lot of money. Final Fantasy Gaiden at least would sell by name alone...

[IMG] This is one thing I hate about game makers. They don't localize their stuff.
Sure some do but there a bunch of unlocalized games I want to play. [IMG]

At least there were a few translation projects for all those games though at one point (i think Estpolis had one...). So there is some interest in the community. Games usually get translated some way or another, sooner or later.

All the translations fell apart like most do here. I am seriously doubting dq 6 will be localized.
