Originally beginning life as another installment in the True Crime franchise, Truce Crime: Hong Kong eventually became Sleeping Dogs when Square Enix acquired the publishing rights. The title was released in 2012 to critical praise and pretty great sales for a fresh new IP.

Of course, this is Square Enix we're talking about, so they labeled the game's performance a disappointment anyway. Some even said there might never be a followup.

I'm happy to report those naysayers were wrong... Wrong Kong.

I, for one, am so glad to hear that we'll be seeing more of Sleeping Dogs, even if it isn't called Sleeping Dogs in the future. To just kill off the franchise so early would've been a... true crime.

Waiting for 2014 is certainly going to be tough. On the bright side, we've still got face kicks.

    Yeah, that'll help.

For a second I thought they meant to elaborate on "Final Fantasy VIII"'s "Triple Triad" mini-game.

I am getting pretty tired of game companies just pumping sequel after sequel without a break. Gamers barely have enough time to enjoy one game before they start shoving another one down our throats.
This orgy is starting to become really crowded.

...but this is the very first sequel to "Sleeping Dogs", it's not "Final Fantasy MLXXXIII"... Isn't it a good thing that they're building on a new IP instead of shoving stale, greasy, re-heated burgers down our throats?

But it's also the first to a slippery slope where they will just become like Assassin's Creed. This in my opinion is killing the gaming industry.

So... "Mario Party 9", "Pokemon God Knows Which Generation We're at at this Point", "Metroid 99th Mission", "Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of We've Been Through This a Zillion Times For the Past 20-odd Years" etc. are fine, but a sequel to "Sleeping Dogs", an exciting new IP is a start of a bad trend. C'mon Catboy.

No it's a bad trend to just pump out a sequel within an extremely short period for time without any waiting period. Kinda like how they started advertising for AC4 pretty right after AC3 was released. My issue isn't game sequels, its the lack of waiting period between them, they pretty much just release a game, then announce a sequel directly after release and then announce that it's coming out like only a few months maybe a year later. They need more development time in between game releases is what I am trying to get at.

Why can't you guys just let sleeping dogs lie?

But I guess it's great that a game I've never heard of is getting a sequel. Normally games are promoted so entire countries can know about them; that didn't happen with this one. And it sounds really fun too.

Oh, fair enough. I can understand what you mean - I haven't even completed Assassin's Creed 3 100% yet. That being said, Assassin's Creed has the excuse that every game lets you visit entirely different time periods, so they are all unique while the gameplay mechanics remain familiar (sometimes a bit "too" familiar, but 3 included firearms and sailing, so it stands out in the crowd). Time for engine refinement wouldn't hurt though, but what can you do - people want those games, they clearly sell. Demand generates supply.

2 years is short for you? Wow. Just saying, 2 years is more than enough to pick up a game and play it.

I actually was not aware it was released last year, sorry my mind isn't quite all there right now.

I loved Sleeping Dogs and the True Crime series as a whole, but GTA 5 has made it kinda surplus to requirement, really.

It was more an homage to Hong Kong action movies and draws tons of elements from the Hong Kong film industry.
