First of all, my apologies if this is easily found with a Google search, I looked and couldn't find anything concrete.

My friend gave me his kids Xbox 360 to replace the disc drive, he provided me with a Hitachi v46. I dumped the key from his failed drive which was a Lite-On and then spoofed the Hitachi and flashed LT 2.0. XGD2 games and legitimate copies work now. XGD3 do not work and I assume this is because the Hitachi being spoofed as a Lite-On thinks it can read the XGD3 security flags which it cannot. I am not worried about that at all. My question is with the newest dashboard can I play legitimate games on Xbox Live?

My previous searches gave me the impression that you cannot, but I would like to verify before returning the console to my friend.

Basically what aadz93 said.
Spoofed drives are a no-go for XBLive.

Get a replacement Liteon or stay offline.
Or RGH it, you know, if you don't care about Live.

It is recommended if replacing the DVD drive that you replace it with the same type of drive that came with the console, especially if you plan to use XBL, for offline use it doesn't matter though
Thanks for the verification. I'll let buddy know and we will see if he wants to buy another drive.
