    No...you can either:

    1. Buy a New wii
    2. Wait till someone in the mod scene comes up with a solution...and no I have no idea how long that will take. Lets say never to make it interesting.
    3. Send it to Nintendo to have it fixed.

Weird, last update on my Japanese Wii before trying out SPM AFAIK was 2.0J and it ran fine (did an update bla-bla message but didn't brick anything). Still running now on 2.2J. I guess the default firmware is no go.

You should have latest firmware (in my case 2.1E or never) before applying spm patch, then it shouldnt brick. i'm not sure how this works on jpn wii.

My NTSC-J Wii console is also already at 2.0J before I ran SPM NTSC-U. When I clicked on the Disc Channel, it prompted me to update, but a quick update later, I checked that it was still at 2.0J and then SPM disc can be detected and played from the Disc Channel.

I dunno why there are so many people not bothered to update their Wii consoles...

'kay, just realized the SPM update was 2.0U so it skipped over my 2.0J so it didn't brick.
Anything lower than 2.0 will get screwed.
