Hacking Speculated DS Redesign in '07, Bigger Screens

The newest [rumor] comes from the always reliable Japanese blogs and forums and suggests that Nintendo will release yet another redesigned DS next year in Japan. The unofficial, highly speculative, and translated report goes on to say that both screens will be slightly larger at 3.5-3.8 inches in comparison to the current 3 inch diagonal Lite version. For reals? Well, it's anyone's guess if this little snippet holds any credibility, but is there any doubt Nintendo will release another DS iteration sometime in the future?

I think the Lite is the best they got unless they get rid of the GBA function, like the Micro did with the GB function, which would then slim it down even more. Increasing the screen size just makes the handheld bigger, which I thought was the bonus versus the PSP. If Nintendo is considering this, I'd say that money would be better put towards restructuring the Wi-fi functions of both the DS and Wii and putting out games that have better usage of Wi-fi capabilities i.e. not having to disconnect every time trade something, more games that have actual ingame interaction not just trading.

well, they'll at least be redesigning the GBA slot area so those of us still sticking with our "Lite" carts (i.e. SCL, M3L, G6L, EZ4L) will be forced to switch and buy a Slot1 cart.

Well my DS lite is perfect for me , the only thing i would change is the L R button , they seem weird to me , they don't stick out from the DS which feels arkward to press, and the Start-Select. Too Small

I hope the DS doesn't get any smaller. I have massive hands and gaming can get uncomfortable at times. I wouldn't be surprised if the GBA function goes.... but then again, I hope it's AFTER FFVI gets released.

well im going to be a little harsh here maybe , but what an useless thing is the DS Browser , damn , why botter with that when if you have a WiFi connection avaible you mostly have access to a PC. Go on the pc the screen is like 10 time the size of a DS screen.

theyd never take out the gba slot, thats impossible, what with the whole, rumble attachment and external ram pack they have for it, thatd be, kinda....gay?

I really could see them dropping the GBA slot for a DS redesign. GBA is pretty much dead going forward and most of the people buying a DS now, don't know or care about GBA support. I'm not sure about the bigger screens, that would just make the games look more pixelated and wouldn't really be worth the effort.

That said I don't really believe the talk about this redesign. It could happen, I just don't think it is likely...
