    Ouendan or Cheer Squads are actually common in Japanese schools. Not sure about personal ones though.

    yeah cheering is big here. in sapporo hokkaido, where i'm living, they have a huge cheering contest every year. they close off all the main streets to do it. and groups of them compete against each other. and it ranges from junior high kids to adults. it's crazy cool.
