Hacking Sound problem

My DS Phat is falling apart.

It recently developed a problem with the speakers. The speakers sometimes work fine, sometimes there's no sound coming out at all, and from time to time there are loud cracking noises. (Kinda like the sound of frying bacon.)

The earphones port works like a charm, no problems there? Does anyone know what's wrong? I assume that it's likely a problem with the circuit board, because from what I saw the two speakers are wired in a way that they won't malfunction at the same time. All the wiring and parts look ok. Any Suggestions?

If this matters at all: I use a SCDS-1 and a DSTT.
