Soulslike deck builder 'Death Howl' announced

Danish indie developer The Outer Zone and publisher 11bit Studios have announced Death Howl. This upcoming title is described as an atmospheric soulslike deck-builder that revolves around a tale of grief, healing, and resilience. The announcement trailer provides a glimpse of its gameplay:

In Death Howl, you play as Ro, a grieving mother navigating an ethereal, stone-age Nordic-inspired realm in a desperate quest to reunite with her departed son. As Ro, you’ll face relentless spirits in grid-based, turn-driven battles that demand not only tactical precision but also the ability to adapt. To forge a path through despair and stand against formidable enemies and fearsome bosses, players must craft and refine their decks. Each realm visited offers unique deck types and mechanics, enriching and deepening the strategic layer. Players can further enhance their decks with shamanic totems, ensuring they are best prepared for the deadly encounters ahead.

In addition to the run-based gameplay, Death Howl inserts deck-building mechanics into an explorative open world, divided into grim biomes, like the Forest of Howling Shadows or Meadows of Delusion. Each region not only unlocks aforementioned new cards to craft, but also unveils fragments of Ro’s story, steeped in themes of love and loss, and uncovers the forgotten lore of this mysterious spiritual world.

Death Howl is set to release on PC later in 2025 via Steam and GOG. A demo will be available on Monday via the game’s Steam page.

The last thing we need

Another deck builder and another souls like. I’m so tired of these games. Besides slay the spire perfected it anyways

procedurally generated soulslike roguelite deckbuilding turn-based platformer with lo-fi art, emotional resonance mechanics and emergent storytelling that's a poignant allegory for the cyclical nature of depression but it's actually cosmic horror metanarrative with fourth-wall breaking meta-commentary

Roguelite, sure, but I didn't see any elements of Souls games in there. Guess maybe they just meant it's going for a similar atmosphere and death mechanic.
Either that or stupidly hard because that's also considered "Soulslike"

The new "Souls-like" game of the year! Barbie's Gentle Horse Ride through a Pleasant Meadow with Friends!

Stop calling every game a souls-like!

i swear every year there is a new fad. last year was simulator games this year is deck builders
If only we could have that kind of diversity here, the only fad we have throughout every year is complaining kiddos that are proud pirating it in the end either way.

Besides slay the spire perfected it anyways
Slay the Spire isn't the holy grail and there are other great games like that, some even better.
It all comes down to personal preference, although the only thing we have here is entitlement.

You're literally on a site where people used to share GBA roms...
I've been on this site since 2006 and even then sharing roms was not allowed.

The release list project was just that, a release list, with screenshots and information about the ROMs, put into a DAT file so you could use a ROM manager to validate the integrity of your own ROMs. The site was not a place to come and download ROMs.

You just joined a little too late.
But it didn't last long.
@NinStar is right about the history here.
Because of the change this site made, this site now does a far greater good.
GBATemp wouldn't have been here if they didn't change.
