Hacking soul silver keeps freezing

I've been playing pokemon soul silver on my dstwo for a while and it has been working fine so far. I'm now in the safari zone and noticed it has been freezing mid battle on me, I also noticed it freezes sooner when I use the touch screen. I went and updated my dstwo to the latest firmware hoping it would stop but the problem persists. This has never happened to me before and I can't figure out how to fix it. Is it the rom or the flashcart? If it's the rom, do I need to replace it with another one? Can I keep my saves to use on the new one or do I have to start over?

I notice just today New Super Mario Bros just froze too, but when I loaded it again it worked fine. So far none of my other games have froze on me but Soul Silver refuses to work during battles, so much in fact that I can't even progress in the game.

I just replaced the ROM itself and left the DTC and SAV files but the game doesn't read them. How do I get the new rom to read my save files?

Make sure they have the exact same file name, and they should work!

Example:

Pokemon - Heartgold (U).nds
Pokemon - Heartgold (U).sav

Any differences and it will make a new save according to the filename used.
