Sony unveils limited-time retro throwback themes on the PlayStation 5

You can now scroll through your games in nostalgic style, thanks to a new update pushed out for the PlayStation 5. To celebrate the PlayStation's 30th anniversary, Sony released a handful of themes for the PS5, letting you customize your system to look and sound like the PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4. The themes go beyond just being a UI skin, too, with complete throwback boot up sequences, and sound effects from each respective console. Selecting one of the themes to outfit your PlayStation 5 specifies that this will be a limited time feature, and does not state when it will go away.

When I see articles like this, I think of this topic. A limited time offer makes things harder to preserve, after all. Being able to add character to the home screen is always a plus, but I feel like a lot of themes make the screen too busy.
Ironically, this is one of the reasons why I like having the simple "Light/Dark" themes for the Switch: less likely to have themes that are too busy to allow for proper focus on navigation, and the Dark theme is much easier on the eyes.

That said, I'm not opposed to the idea of having more themes that are within reasonable boundaries, but themes that are limited and that can be removed at the console maker's whims (even if you own them) are an absolute "no", and yet another reason why I will never buy a Sony console.

I usually take a default approach to most of my systems. The 3DS is probably the only exception where I actually use the themes that were offered, since many of them were genuinely cool. This is a pretty stupid move on Sony's part, things like this shouldn't be stuck in a situation of being limited like this. I can understand holiday based themes coming and going, but just general themes, what the hell is wrong with you?

Before you know it, you'll be paying a subscription just to keep the theme enabled on your system, when you stop paying, your system defaults to the standard theme it starts with.

Coax wire today is much better (RG6) than old school coax (RG58/59). Newer wire more expensive than the older wire.
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
You can buy it at any length @homedepot wire cutting area cheaper than buying preformed cable, but you have to put on your own ends/ connectors.

I still like DTV but the wire wasn't long enough to reach the window still pick up 40 channels

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
