A future PlayStation 3 firmware update will enable Vita Remote Play on all games, Eurogamer has learnt.

However, this will be only at the PlayStation Portable 480x272 resolution, which will be upscaled to fill the screen.

For future games, developers will be able to include Vita specific 480p modes, Eurogamer understands.

Vita's OLED display is actually capable of displaying games at 960×544 pixel resolution.

Vita Remote Play is how Sony's new handheld interacts with the PS3.

In a Tokyo Game Show demonstration Sony's Shuhei Yoshida played a brief section of Killzone 3 streamed into the device from a PlayStation 3 unit, noting how a few of the Dual Shock buttons missing on the Vita are mapped to the touchscreen.

Vita can also be used in co-operative play with PS3 games. While a colleague played through a specially constructed LittleBigPlanet 2 level with a Dual Shock controller, Yoshida controlled an aeroplane via the Vita's touch screen, helping Sackboy reach his goal by altering the environment.

Sony declined to comment when contacted by Eurogamer.

Will it work on every PS3 game?
    Such as launch titles.

Gundam Extreme VS and Armored Core V on Vita, sweet, it'll be fun mapping out the controls. Anyone I don't want this happening until both are out.

It says "all PS3 games" in the title. What do you think?

That's a completely different idea. The Wii U sends a separate feed to your controller for controlling certain aspects of the game, it doesn't send the entire game to it (well, some games may but others may not).

Also, the PSP supported this before the Wii U, so don't be saying "OH SONY ARE SUCH COPY CATS" when they did it first. They're simply expanding the support and bringing it to their future handheld.

As for "PS4", I saw a news story somewhere in which Sony stated that launching their next gen console "significantly later than the competition" would be "undesirable". Depends on their definition of "significantly later". The Vita launches roughly a year after the 3DS so one could safely assume the PS4 will be out in a year (or around a year) later than the Wii U, and the Wii U probably won't launch until at least the second half of 2012 (since they said something about it being post-E3).

    But I digress.

Even though this is going off-topic, Sony patented something similar to the Wii U in like, 2009.

Nobody is copying anyone, they just have the same ideas.

Where did you get that picture? They should put that in the original post, but on topic this is just another gimmick to try and keep up with the WiiU.

Or maybe it's an implementation of an idea they already tried (with limited success) with the PSP when the PS3 first came out but now they finally have a handheld that can carry it out? (PSP doesn't have enough nubs, for one. Also, it's slow.)

Figured before I went in this thread that the wii u would be brought up.

I have to point out that Nintendo have been working on this since shortly after the wii launch.

That patented barely have any substance to it. Seem like a quick thought and that was
it. Also it looks more different than a like...

It is curious how these patents shows up when there is even a hint of "similarity" of a actual product.
Whether than something shown or notice before hand...

Everyone forgot the GBA-GC cable? I remember you could download small games on to the GBA with it. Isn't that basically a worse version of this idea?
IIrc, it could also be used for a seperate controller.

You were supposed to click the Like This button.
Because "any game" means we'll be able to play Skyrim on the PS Vita.
Granted, we'll only be able to do it if we're in our house, but still.

Actually, I distinctly remember hearing that you can instantly stream games onto Wii U controller and walk about the house whilst playing them (Including a crude joke about throning on the toilet).

EDIT: Source: Should be the first shown feature.

And Nintendo did it before too (I'm not saying Sony is copying Nintendo) with the GBA and Gamecube, Super Gameboy and Super Nintendo, DS and Wii...
Nintendo is doing something different now. It's not a connection between handheld and console, Nintendo is bringing the Nintendo DS concept to the home console gaming(somthing like that).

You can't copy someone if the idea isn't even public. If it was nothing more than internal development and stuff without any public patents, it's not "copying".

That's still not the same idea. The PS3 can stream games to the Vita. The GBC, GBA, DS connectivity is just some extra fluff and doesn't do what the Vita is offering.

To all of you bitching about x copying y, realize that competition spurs innovation.

Personally I don't give a shit if Sony copies Nintendo or vice versa. If it results in better products for all of us, then I'm all for it.
