Sony has issued a patent for a biometric PlayStation 3 controller and handheld, which if they saw the light of day, would function similarly to Nintendo’s delayed Vitality Sensor. The device will check things such as how moist your skin is, your heart rhythm, and muscle movements. Here’s a list of ideas regarding the device direct from Sony:
    • Weapons that change depending on how stressed you are. An increase in stress level could make a weapon more accurate or less steady, which will make it difficult to target an enemy. Sony specifically mentions a sniper situation where the weapon becomes more steady if you’re relaxed.
    • Tensing up your muscles to withstand an attack or charge up a shield.
    • A video game character whose facial expressions, movements, posture, and even voice changes depending on your biometric data. For example, this character will sweat when a player is nervous.
    • An adrenaline style boost which will let you run faster, jump higher, and punch harder when stressed.
    • A health bar that depletes more rapidly if you have a high stress level.
    • An attack button that changes a character’s move depending if the player is stressed or relaxed.
    • Background music and scenery that changes depending on your stress level. Matching music is one example, but Sony also proposes to change music to make a player more relaxed. Brightness of objects and the zoom level, representing a higher level of focus, are two ideas for scenery.
    • A game that adapts difficulty levels depending on a players stress level.

I feel a disturbance in the force, like millions of voices cried out all at once because stress causes them to suck in shooters, yet they won't be silent.

And Sony STILL has the nerve to call Nintendo overly casual?

I swear Nintendo announced their "Vitality Sensor" like two years ago. It looks ugly in that picture and I never thought it could be used for anything neat.
Although gimmicky, maybe, what Sony describes really intrigues me and sounds like it could be a lot of fun for some games, especially if it was built into the controller, so you could play normally with the perks of it knowing your heart rate and using that for mixed up gameplay.

Not saying it good or bad idea, but everything new doesn't have to be casual. (I didn't think you saying that, just saying. :P)
They stuck that into people heads...

great. make the game harder or easier when you're stressed. that's just... well, okay. i bet BF3 fans would like this. adds a level of "realism" to their shooter, if they're nervous.

Didn't Ubisoft also have something at E3 2009?

Anyway its only a patent, it may never see release. Can't say I am bothered about it at all and I hoped that Nintendo got rid of this idea.

    Why though?
    The Vitality Sensor is useless...
Oh and, this will be funny to watch people playing CoD get mad, they will get more inaccurate each time they get angry, which makes them angrier, oh Sony you trolls :creep:

I can think of only one game this would be good for.

    Indigo Prophecy.

If this Vitality Sensor, Nintendo's or Sony's, makes it to market, Indigo Prophecy needs a remake.

Is it even copying if Nintendo just completely forgot about it?

Seriously, do you really think the Wii Vitality Sensor will ever see release? I doubt this one will either, but you never know.

Well if Sony want to patent it, they have to prove it was their idea all along. The thing is I have doubts for this accomplish since the R-Zone from Tiger I believe.

Are you seriously implying that the PS1 controller and PS2 controllers were ripped off from Nintendo controllers? Do you not notice how ridiculously far the dual shock controller is from the N64s? The N64's controller is one of the worst controllers I've ever used (seriously) and the dual shock is superior to it immensely.

(Sony releases their Vitality Sensor during 2012, before Nintendo's launches)

"Yo, Sony, you just copied Nintendo again. Stop doing that shit."

"Ours came out first! It was our idea! I don't remember any announcement..."

    Edit:

The N64 vs. PS2 controller is just talking about the analog stick. Not the controller.
