Bad move for Sony. Let be honest, Sony's State of Play is a hot garbage that doesn't really build up any hype at all and E3 is the biggest stage Sony have right now. Giving up on E3 mean giving up on a lots of attention from western gamer which is the major market for Sony.

That's such bullshit. No one cares WHERE they get the information from, so long as we get it from somewhere.
The big shows like E3 were historically 'convenient' for getting a big dose of industry news and announcements within a condensed timeframe, but it's really not necessary anymore.

I did. Why aren't they showing the PS5 at hundreds of consumer events already if that is what they want to do?

Why not do both? Why would showing at e3 be a bad thing to do?

It sounds more like they aren't ready to show it yet, rather than something magical about e3

No it wasn’t a joke, no! It sounded like you just had enough, that’s how it sounded to me. It was just a suggestion for you don’t put all your eggs in one basket so to speak. I can clearly judge you should take my advice I’m very successful in many fields in the Uk, music production, commercial development lots of different genres but it was only a friendly suggestion, you carry on if that’s what you feel happy doing visiting E3 every year... great go girl!!

Thts bullshit we do care about wher we get it from - e3 was the ultimate event in the calendar for gaming it has a lot of history and memorable clips on YouTube and we want tht back with a real audience cheering away with excitement when see or hearing something new - back in the day I'm sure most of us was counting the days down so we could watch all 3 of the shows

Back in the day, the Internet was also not a means of delivering information. Nowadays, why go through the trouble of attending an event just because "tradition says so?"

It's okay if it's what YOU want, but don't project that on everyone else - a lot of us don't care anymore. We know that times have changed and that information is provided from numerous sources.

That has as much (if not more) to do with what was being shown as the method of delivery. There's no reason why a Ninty Direct reveal can't be equally exciting. Terry in Smash reveal was an awesome trailer... and I don't play Smash (but I love SNK's properties).

Yeah I was quite serious “mate” she sounded to me in her comment she’d had enough “suffering” was it I red but never mind I won’t lose any sleep over it I was only trying to help but if going to E3 every year is a source of great excitement in her life till she’s 30 odd then...that’s great, really I’m pleased for her!

I’m not going to carry this on but what I will say about Chary she is very passionate and good at what she does at E3 and works hard and she’s still so young but remember there are always people on gbatemp such as myself who have contacts in certain fields who can possibly put her in the right direction in something new I mean I know plenty of women DnB artists in the US that play over here In the UK at festivals every year, who are just as passionate as she is about journalism for E3/Gbatemp so yes just remember not everyone is here to judge, to put someone down but maybe to open new doors for that individual but her response I was amazed..

For as cringeworthy as a lot of the stage shows and whatever else have historically been they do appear to cost quite a bit. Plus the aggravation of dealing with LA hotels and traffic (possibly also visas).

At the same time I have to wonder if it is that valuable. Historically games were still something of a niche thing so E3 acted as a thing for investors to watch and pretend they knew what was going on (hence at least some of the cringe and bizarre choices of things to showcase, and focus on puffing themselves up despite most gamers not caring so much) but today games are probably big enough to have more dedicated analysts and the like doing better tracking. If you can do easier to manage events (Tokyo Games Show, CES, gamescom, PAX maybe, general online options) and still get the same reach (or better, or just a bit cheaper -- I assume Sony are already going to CES, and indeed MS all those years ago announced the original xbox there).
This is not to say I would bet against them opting out as they don't have enough to show.

The only thing "magical" about E3 is they serve alcohol...if you're old enough to drink it.
Other than that, it really isn't "for everyone". It's not something I really feel like delving into, but at this point,

I'd say your best bet is to wait and watch....better yet, just literally go see what I'm talking about. Talk to event organizers (do some research before you reply to me--email the figures behind these events/expos), expand(ong) your knowledge of how much money goes into making these presentations possible and so on.

    Here, start with this:

Absolutely none of these are what I would consider Nintendo's "A game" - the Switch Pokemon games are inherently lacklustre and lazy, with so much cut content it's stupid. Breath of the Wild lacks the same direction and focus 'normal' Legend of Zelda games have due to being open-world, and forced in the frustrations known as weapon and shield fragility and limited stamina when no good Legend of Zelda game had either before. Super Mario Odyssey has far too many rage-inducing Moons (skip rope, beach volleyball, walk in circle on the moon, fragile bridge with Bonzai Bills and Bullet Bills, etc.) to be called 'enjoyable' or an 'A game', along with limiting Mario to only 3 HP instead of 8 - Super Mario 64 DS is still Nintendo's best 3D Mario game.

Instead, I would consider Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Kirby: Star Allies, Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening and Fire Emblem Warriors to be Nintendo's "A games". Those are actually great fun, especially Xenoblade 2, Link's Awakening and Kirby Star Allies.

Why are people surprised? E3 is a huge waist of money they need months of deals so they can show the 3rd partys devs stuff and pay an host and a huge team to do a 40 min show that can be done by a fraction of the price and headches by doing a direct, they started copying nintendo with state of play and seems they liked it, so from now on no more E3 but ps state of plays just like nintendo, e3 will be for ms and other studios now.

Fucking thank you. I'm glad there are people who can understand how much goes into making this shit (E3 and other expos) possible.

No one actually go to E3 except the press and gaming enthusiast. But even among online community, E3 is still the event that gain the most attention and it is very arrogant for Sony to think their "State of Play" can be compete to that. But it really doesn't matter much since most people just read the news instead of follow the event.

What are you talking about? Sony have around 300 days to attend hundreds of events, the closer they get to launch date the more expensive it will be as they'll be running multiple events at the same time. So where are these events? If they aren't holding them now, why not?

Sony is broke now? It only sounds a lot of money, the cost of attending e3 is tiny in comparison to how much they'll be spending marketing the ps5. Money spent on e3 goes a long way though.
