According to industry rumours floating around the Internet Sony are preparing to cut back on the entry level specifications for its successor to the PlayStation Portable to enable it to compete against Nintendo’s 3DS with regards to pricing. According to a French site Sony has basically halved the RAM in its Next Generation Portable and has removed the internal flash memory altogether. Do you think Sony has a chance at cracking Nintendo’s market-share with its forthcoming Next Generation Portable?[/p]

They only really need to do something that has a power range of the original Xbox and that's about it, aiming for near modern consoles is just too expensive for game developers and quite frankly most games will be ports of those anyway.

Sony has some good franchises so they can rely on those to sell this plus they can easily get some exclusives from other companies.

Also to cut costs they should remove the back touchscreens, they're gimmicky at best and they don't serve that much purpose to require them.

This might be another gadget along with the normal psp. Just more pathetic version. {may even be better at some aspects}

Maybe this is one of Sony tactics. But a new one with those features will cost more.

I'm not surprised. One of the many draws of Nintendo handhelds is afforability. For instance, why buy a handheld as powerful and as expensive as a PS3 when you can just buy a PS3?

Besides, no one wants to splurge unnecessarily on a handheld. The general public would be more inclined to cheaper, more innovative option

They've already said there will be a 3G model sometime later.

They'll do different models at launch, one which is a basic "360 Arcade" style on, a mid range one and one with loads of space.
