Sony has shutdown Concord developer Firewalk studio. No surprises there considering Concord's historic flop despite its rumored $400 million budget.
No sympathies from me, remember this "Talent-less Freaks" quote that was very eloquently stated by a Concord dev 🤣🤣

Am strictly an off-line single-player gamer and I hope $ony has learnt a $400 million lesson here, live service games are played out, $ony missed the bus to that gravy train, stick to singleplayer. Sayanora $uckers

Is anyone actually surprised? I just hope Sony and the industry at large learns a lesson from this.....oh who am I kidding, they'll just find something to blame that isn't an actual reason, IDK used game sales, hentai and pirates.

God forbid the live service model isn't the magical money maker they want it to always be.

They're already blaming "incels", "racists" and the "far right".

Who knew those groups had such good taste in video games :yayone:

So, let me get this straight:
1. Make a game studio
2. Get $400 million in funding
3. Make a game which's main point is pushing a political agenda rather than entertainment
4. Shut the game down after 3 months
5. Shut the studio down and never make another game
6. Somehow be surprised that the game sold like shit?

This is the equivalent of putting food in a hardware store and then wondering why it didn't sell. The point of a hardware store is to sell you things like nails, hammers, screws, screwdrivers and the like, not food.

It is a shame that the game, which was not special but looked great and was more than merely playable, couldn't have been modified to be single-player and sold for $19.95. They never would have made back their budget that way, but to just piss away a quarter of a billion dollars and have literally nothing to show for it is very 2024 Sony.

modern AAA games cost too much and take too long to make. devs decide to play it safe and follow the trends, and guess what? by the end of development (8 years in concord's case) the trends are no longer trendy, they're played out.

it didn't help that- live service games were never a successful "trend" to follow in the first place.

solution: make modest sized games, with modest budgets, shorter development period and room for experimentation. you only need a modest success to make your money back.

Because of Concord, Sony was like The PS5 Pro will be Six.....en hundred dollars.
Concord Tax yo...that $400 mill ain't gonna magically re-appear by itself
Post automatically merged:

...4. Shut the game down after 3 months...
that's pretty generous considering the game lasted less than one
Actually Concord was shutdown after only 10 days with automatic refunds made to all digital purchases

They shut the game down after only 13 days
