Sonic Central stream - revealing upcoming projects for the Sonic franchise

sonic.png

Sonic news is on the way. With the 30th anniversary of the franchise set to take place just next month, SEGA is finally ready to give fans a look at what they can expect from the blue blur. On May 27th, a "first look" at the upcoming projects, events, and partnerships will be shown, courtesy of a live stream scheduled for 9am PT/12pm ET. If the rumors are true, we may just see Sonic Colors Ultimate Edition or a Sonic Anniversary Collection that includes Sonic 3. For now, we wait. You can catch the live reveals on the official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitch or YouTube page, or tune into our news coverage to see what gets confirmed.

They didn't say anything about them, but look at the footage we saw: proper widescreen was showcased as well as 4:3. These definitely won't be just straight up ports, at the very least we'll be given new display options.

I wouldn't be shocked to see spin dash in Sonic 1 and maybe the drop dash as an optional toggle for each game as well.

From there they could do plenty more or just call it a day. Hopefully they go all out and let you play as Knuckles and Trails in each game as well and Hidden Palace is added back into Sonic 2 like the mobile port. I wouldn't be surprised if the Sonic 3 and Knuckles soundtrack has been changed too, but who knows right now.

or they could just let Whitehead do everything and they'll be perfect

in which case, why not say that?

I don't think they really need Whitehead for this. They have the work he did for the mobile ports, not to mention the excellent M2 SEGA AGES additions to Sonic 1 and 2. Seems like it'd be real easy to just merge all those extras together with a team that doesn't require to take Whitehead away from his work on the next Freedom Planet game.

It shouldn't take a rocket scientist to take all that they've done for rereleases of these games in recent years and apply them all together and bundle them all together. They aren't building these games from the ground up at this point, hiring the likes of Whitehead for such a task at this point would be pretty pointless. Now if we were talking a brand new Sonic Mania title, then by all means, get him on board, but we already know what Whitehead brings to rereleases of the classic Sonic games thanks to his mobile ports, so apply all those changes plus the addition of the drop dash like the AGES releases, and apply it all to 3 and Knuckles as well which notoriously has not seen any such rereleases and you have a quality product that even Sega would have to struggle to mess up at this point.

I really just have absolutely zero faith in Sega regarding Sonic at this point :\
