Now being dubbed as a "prequel" to Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1, the SEGA Mega CD classic- Sonic CD, is making its way to digital platforms starting with Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network tomorrow. The game will also be releasing on the App Store, Android Market, Windows Phone 7 and Steam platforms.
Unlike the other Sonic re-releases on these platforms, this game is not being emulated and has instead been remade from the ground up using a proprietary game SDK dubbed the "Retro Engine" developed by Christian Whitehead (aka. Taxman) of Sonic Retro.
Aside from genuine widescreen support; this version of the game will also feature both the original Japanese/European and American soundtracks, achievement support, optional original or alternate spindash/physics and more. It will even let you play through the game as Tails once you complete it through once as Sonic - a new feature not found in the original game.
Any classic Sonic fan would be mad to miss this deal, so grab a copy and show SEGA you approve of the level of quality put into this release and hopefully it will get them thinking about giving the original Mega Drive/Genesis trilogy the same treatment.
SEGA said:Sonic CD will be available tomorrow from Xbox LIVE Arcade for the Xbox 360, priced at 400 Microsoft Points, the PlayStation Network in Europe for $5.00/£3.59/€4.49 /AUD$6.25 and iPhone, iPod touch, iPad for $4.99/AUD$5.49/Euro $3.99/UK £2.99. Sonic CD will be released on the PlayStation Network in America on 20th December and for Android and Windows Phone 7 devices in the New Year.
