That's really a shame, I was looking forward to finally play it. However, I'll take the optimistic option and think that it's a good sign of quality control.
Thanks for posting this news luke_c!
Aww! i was looking foward to this
But now i can play it on the go with my iPod!! and dads iPad
I can wait. Sonic Rush is still good enough for me. I havent seen anything yet that wows me about the game.
Can't wait for this game, but I'm very happy to hear SEGA have delayed it. A delay can only mean good things and goes to show that their actually LISTENING to fans for once.
They can take all the time they want on it to get it perfect IMO. "Sonic the Hedgehog 4" has a lot to live up to, and after seeing the leaked videos, it's close to being right... But it's not quite there yet
Piracy will be done.
Haha, it was doomed from the moment it had a WiiWare release.
People will be emulating it on Dolphin in no time.
Aw...I was really hoping it would be released on the anniversary of Sonic 1. I mean, I know it means good things for the game, but it would have been a spiritual moment T_T
I'm actually sort of happy 'bout this. It seemed a bit "beta-y" from the leaks.
Y'know... "beta-y" as in "they've got a solid engine down, but the way they use it doesn't look very interesting just yet".
I hope the extra development time will be put to good use. Starting with fixing the camera view, which shows more of what's behind Sonic than what's in front of him.
Here's the key points they need to work on.
- Entirely removing Casino Night Act 2 and Lost Labyrinth Act 2, and putting in normal levels instead of "Get 100,000 points" or Minecarting.
- Improve the bosses, they are carbon copies of bosses from Sonic 1 & 2, until Robotnik begins panicking.
- Make the levels less automatic and linear, from the leaked videos it's remarkably clear there's little to no exploration and a lot of mechanics designed to keep you moving.
- Can the soundtrack. Seriously.
- Improve the physics engine, this needs to play like Sonic on the Megadrive, not Sonic Rush on the DS.
- Sort out the smoke trails that follow Sonic, they are unusually thick and dusty, and always there.
- Actually put some unique badniks in there, everything is copied from previous titles.
- Make the levels more unique, they're more or less straight copies from previous titles.
Aww...who am I kidding? Just scrap the whole game, start over.
You know, titling the game "Sonic the Hedgehog 4" was a terrible decision. It's the perfect storm for unsatiable fans.
Think about it... By naming it Sonic 4, people will be expecting the game to be both faithful to the Genesis games, as well as offering something new. Holy hell, I can't think of anything more hard to do!
I really couldn't care less. After seeing videos of it, i'm in no rush to play this game. It looks pretty terrible tbh.
lol i was right their were leaking the game on purpose to see what our reactions would be! well now they know they can fix everything like the jump pysics, get rid of that mine level, make super saiyan sonic more awesome etc
DAM, i was hopeing the 4th console would be DSi, i want Sonic the Hedgehog 4 DSiware
iphone isnt a game console, iphone is crap to me.
I'd like to tack on a few things and add to a few things.
Music - I'd rather have them rehash older tunes, at least up until Mad Gear. Seriously, it's 2010, modernize it. Or de-modernize it with ye olde genesis style. It's not all bad, it's just...kind of meh in most stages. What was interesting was, they used some of Sonic 3D Blast music.
Level design - Sonic 3 had more exploration (replayed it a few months ago, went all over the place looking for the Special rings, had fun), the backgrounds are a bit bland, for example, a part of splash hill 1, I saw some junk background layer blocking the ocean at some points, and I thought mad gear would look better with a 2D Sonic.
Sonic games have great oceans, and they show them off with a stylish stage. Green Hill, Emerald Hill, Angel Island..well not so much, but the way it went, you went from the coast to the jungles was nice, Emerald Coast, Seaside Hill, the beach in 06', Neo Green Hill, Route 99, etc. Splash Hill just seems a bit out of place.
Not to mention the Special Stage. The music doesn't make it very special, while it is nostalgic, it's just...too cutesy and peaceful...and it doesn't seem very fun to need to tilt your controller (ps3/wii) for it. What if there's a failed response at some point? Even Sonic Heroes had it right with Special Stages. It was kind of like Sonic 2 mixed with Chaotix, but for the most part, I enjoyed those. Sonic 3's special stage also.. was awesome. Why couldn't they just rehash Sonic 3's stage with twists of 2/Chaotix?
This makes me wonder, are they just ignoring Sonic 3? I mean, I can understand if Episode 1 is 1&2, 2 is 2&3, and 3 is 3&Chaotix/'future' Sonic, but that's not very nostalgic, it's supposed to be a sequel to Sonic 3, it should have some 'improvements'.
With 4 after 3 but before everything else....after seeing some things, they could do much more with that. Why would robotnik/eggman reuse 'modified' badniks? At least show some linkage between the past and the 'future'/present. Story tie-ins are the best, if they're done right.
A mini light-speed dash effect with rings wouldn't hurt, put it as an optional thing in an options menu or rather, add stuff in an options menu that would actually help optimize the game to the player's liking. Homing attacks...they make it seem like a breeze. I mean, I remember hearing stuff about how if you timed Sonic's attack in Sonic 3, you'd 'dodge' a projectile, granted, I never saw that, it did seem cool.
This, you either have it on easy mode or home in on the enemy's projectile.
More like, the only way you can really take a hit is a projectile or go really fast and run into some basic ground badnik.
I guess I am bashing Sonic 4, but I'll probably enjoy it and ignore everything at some point. /meh
The game already looked great from what I saw in the latest videos! There will be always something people will nitpick about, especially with Sonic games so I would rather have this game released Summer...
I didn't really expect this... I guess it's nice that they'll develop it more, and an iPhone/iPod touch port seems nice too. I hope this will be good, then I'll also buy it for PS3.
I heard the game was poorly done. Given this extra dev time, hopefully they will fix what they did wrong.
It's not "nitpicking" so much as it's ripping it apart, with lots of legitimate complaints.
That`s subjective. If you ask me it is nothing but nitpicking. I wonder why not everyone is saying "Why doesn`t Mario wear a brown shirt with a red overall"
