Something about the releasenames

Before some oldschoolers find this blog and start to flame me like mad for the releasenames i am posting here, let me clarify something. All these dirnames for the releases are totally made up by me! The reason for this is simple. Releases weren't uploaded to BBS systems each in his own directory like today, instead you'd just put the files into the appropriate section (e.g. snes/gb/genesis etc). The BBS software then used information stored into the file_id.diz file (so that's what it actually was good for!), that had to be included with every release, to create a list with all releases in each section. These lists had all the filenames and their appropriate description, so you could see what each file was, or find out what file contains the game that you are searching for. I still decide to post those old releases in the way they'd be released in the scene today for (a) better readability and (b) to remind you that i am still posting true scene releases for each day and not just info about some random games (hence the scene-like dirnames instead of just the name of the game).

What's interesting (or not) is that PC scene usually had the disk # and release title in the top row of the file_id.diz, so that the dir listing could be collapsed into just showing the filename and top row and still have the majority of info. Even more advanced BBS software would display the entire file_id.diz for the first file and collapse the description for the following files in the same release.

Console scene was never really into multiple files per release, but instead compressed the entire rom inside a single archive as shown here.

you usually had one big .lzh/lha with the rom already split into 1.44mb diskimages already.
