So.... Why exactly can't I have a GCN memory card plugged in?

Just curious. Most guides say to remove any GCN devices when installing certain apps. Just curious as to what happens if you don't heed that warning.

It's because a number of apps have SD/USB Gecko support for slot B. The thing is, if you have a memory card in Slot B said apps freeze since they think it's a Gecko and it's not.

You can have a memory card in Slot A without running into any problems, however.

a large number of apps did in the past and may currently output random errors and have epic fail, so to avoid that as a variable if you need to ask for help, don't have it in.

edit: and many apps did have problems with a memcard in slot A too, I remember because I had the errors, and I never put anything in slot B

awhile back i couldnt installed backup loader with a GC memory card plugged in, on one screen it said "press A to continue" but no buttons worked ........worked fine with the memory removed

it depends on the application it makes freeze...... if a minor app freezes you can just restart, but if a system menu update froze you would be screwed with out protection

cause many coders for many apps fail so hard they should die

memory cards should never ever ever ever ever cause issues unless you access them in your app.
    sounds normal no?

yea I know, I try to just stick to all my apps coded by lulwut, but that whole sd card is strangely empty....?? lolz... and actually it was a problem in old-er libogc IIRC

As I said, some apps do access the memory card slots. They just don't expect an actual memory card to be there. There's probably no way to distinguish between a card or a Gecko or they'd not have this issue.

There was some code that many apps used, it should detect if an usb gecko is inserted in slot b. The problem is that this code said that a memory card in slot b is an usb gecko. I think it was actually code from libigc, but i'm not 100% sure.

    pst
there is code to detect a usbgecko. and it works perfectly fine.

EDIT: and btw, there is no way in hell the memory card can make nintendo spy on you.

so we have to conclude that programs having issues with mem cards are just crap apps written by crap coders
