If anything, I see there being a new DS in the line by 2020, succeeding the 3DS. But by looking at the high sales of some of the 3DS's most recent games, I can say without an almost doubt the 3DS won't be getting killed anytime soon. Although the Switch will be dragging alot of attention, in my opinion I see it dragging the most attention from the Home/Wii U fanbase, and not the handheld side. And even though the Switch has portable functionality as well, it'd get a lot of shit on Nintendo if it actually did kill the DS line.
Look at Sun/Moon when they released, the games got almost 2 million sales in the first 3 days. You think Nintendo is going to just throw away all that potential revenue with Pokemon? That's pretty much burning money. 3DS is gonna be here for a while, or at least it looks like it.
