...and it will feature a small improvement over the last generation of cards with 24 GB of VRAM! Twenty-four gigabytes of video random access memory! And this isn't even the Titan variant of the card!

Nvidia will probably make one for bragging rights/saving face because Big Navi has a decent chance of besting the "regular" 3080.

That will only happen if AMD doesn't have facepalm-inducing driver support like with their previous video cards.

I get the feeling these new cards are gonna be priced out the wazoo, so I'm gonna be pretty content with my 2070 for a couple of years until they drop in price

I have no doubt the new cards will blow next-gen consoles out of the water by 30% to 50%, but the question of what kind of price-to-performance ratio they will deliver still remains open. Intel are reportedly gonna be entering the GPU market as well, but I don't trust them to price their products reasonably any more than I do Nvidia. Which means we're all stuck hoping and praying that AMD can deliver high-end performance to rival them, at a lower cost. Seems unlikely.

In any case, I don't plan to build another PC until we're near the end of life for next-gen consoles. By then hopefully "RTX 4000" series cards are available, so the 3000 series will be a decent value when buying used. I expect PS5 and XBSX will remain the value kings for a solid 3-4 years after launch.

Of course, that also depends if the next generation systems will have anything that's truly next-gen until 2022/2023. By that point, if Nvidia sticks to their usual schedule of releasing new video cards every two years, they should be well ahead of the PS5 and the XSEX for the rest of the console generation's life cycle if this one was anything to go off of.

you and your toys I'm quite content with my rx 580 not the flashiest card but considering as of now GTAV is my go to game it runs it quite well also considering my cpu is a Xeon E5

If I remember correctly GTXx90's usually are dual GPU's like the GTX790 and GTX690 as an example. There is no evidence that the RTX3090 is a dual GPU and I highly doubt it. I guess that it's actually the new RTX Titan but you never know if enthusiasts want a RTX3000 series dual GPU.

I could see them re-branding the xx90 cards as the new TITANs. When you're naming your god tier video cards just TITAN for three or four different generations straight, someone's bound to get confused!

I don't think the lag time for developers utilizing the full power of next-gen consoles will be nearly as long this cycle, because they're using basically the same chipset/architecture, just with exponentially faster clock speeds and greater memory overhead. The only big change is going from HDDs to SSDs, but that's something that PC has had access to for over eight years now, so developers won't exactly be taken by surprise in that regard either.

Considering the cost of DDR6X, I seriously doubt the consumer level gaming cards will have anywhere near 24GB.. probably not even half that.

I would expect the RTX 3090 to be over $2000 if it does indeed come with 24GB.

all I want is AMD to be able to compete with nvidia to afford the next-gen nvidia's gpu

All of us want better competition. Will we get it? I would like to see it, but you're better off waiting and seeing than hyping up as opposed to waiting for a potentially disappointing set of benchmarks.

PS: I think I used enough words that ended with "-ing" in that sentence...

tbh the 3090 is probably the card that won't be able to compete with anything from AMD, and will (most likely) costs a lot

Yeah it looks like the rumors were exaggerating big time. A Micron specs sheet listed RTX 3090 as having 12GB DDR6X, and the 3080 as having 10GB.

Yeah, I had a feeling that it wasn't that dramatic of an improvement, otherwise, AMD would definitely have quite a fight on their hands. I know they made those HBM2 video cards with, like 16GB of VRAM iirc, but 20GB of VRAM had me going like, "HOLY HELL! THAT'S 3 TIMES WHAT I HAVE IN MY CURRENT RIG!"
