Ok I haven't updated my Wii since last year and I really am so confused on how to get my Wii completely up to date while still being able to use homebrew and the homebrew channel etc.

Please advise what I should do and how to install

what?? yea you can still cause a brick doing it this way.. just use modmii's wizard. it will get you strait. never update using the "official way" after soft modding.

@shortz My 3.2U Wii was softmodded, then I did an "official way" update to 4.3U with no issues. It didn't even remove the Homebrew channel! LOL
(Homebrew Channel was up-to-date because I have an internet connection)

    here
Wad: A file type usually used to store Channel or IOS data files. You need Wad manager to install these files.

cIOS: Custom IOS required to play Wii backups.

cMIOS: Custom IOS required to play GC backups

Dol: Dolphin Executable, the file format most commonly used by Wii Homebrew. Use the Homebrew Channel to launch these files,

IOS: The Wii's system files. Tampering with these may cause a brick, if you don't know what you're doing.

ModMii: A user friendly Windows Utility to help beginners to softmod their Wiis

    Yes ! Read this: http://hackmii.com/2009/11/bricks-wanted/

There are reports of people bricking there wii's while updating officially, even Wii's
    without any mods done.

while I agree that ModMii is the best way to go about updating a Wii, ninty's boot2 update has improved substantially since it was first released. Doing an official update NOW is pretty darn safe

I was also wondering about updating to the latest cIOS's, etc. On my 4.3U softmodded wii. I don't need to install the homebrew channel again(that's what modmii does) I just want to update to the latest cIOS's like I said before. Would it be safe to say I could take the wad files from the complete softmod guide's package and just install them using the wad manager?

yes you can do that... if those wad files were already patched.
just use priiloader 1st or if you can install bootmii @ boot2 just to be safe.

I have priiloader installed...my wii cannot have bootmii as a boot2. What do you mean by patched? I originally did the softmod using the package from the Complete Softmod Guide topic here on GBATEMP. Why would the files work any differently than the previous versions?

better use modmii on your PC and get all the nessicary files + have the latest cIOS, cMIOS, and Offial Ninty IOS and System Menu.
No hassle just answer the suimple questions moddmii asks and follow the generated guide.
Would take you about 10 minutes.

Softmodding and getting your wii up to date is VERY easy nowadays and almost 100% safe with modmii.
