Guys. Let's get to the facts.

It DOES look like a port, HOWEVER, there has been a lot of changes, additions, and improvements done on it, effectively making it a new game as a whole.

Is it a straight port? Not at all. It certainly uses the same engine as a base (not like no other games have done the same before), but it was built into something different.

A straight port would be games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, where it's exactly the same thing to the original, with few additions.

Well.. right after you say "lets get to the facts" you throw down a few subjective opinions...

Hard to tell currently with only the showcase, but it did show quite a lot of changes to the gameplay, which, to me, is a good reason to believe that it isn't "just a port".

That would be like saying that Splatoon 2 is just a port of the WiiU Splatoon (unless I'm wrong with this one, that is).

I do not believe it's a port. Regardless of engine. I was just stating that you didn't present only acts in your other comment, but instead started off stating opinions.

Well, I would say my observation, but yeah, I get what you mean.
Maybe a bit too soon to jump to conclusions.

I wouldn't call it a port. There is simply too many changes made. Every stage now has a battlefield option and omega final destination option. Directional air dodges were brought back in, pokemon trainer mechanics and all return. Pichu, snake, other characters that were left missing in previous installments need updated textures and graphics. New stages added, plus their new battlefield counter part. Then you have to add the fact that the 3ds version and wiiu version are on separate architectures, so there could be potential tweaks to 3ds stages. Then you got the fact that sound effect and voice lines variants. And I've noticed that some of the new stages, even though all not featured, there are stages coming from melee. Characters having final smashes completely replaced. Then you have all the potential move set tweaks. I highly doubt they would just patch only paluetana up. Still curious on how they handle bayonetta and the more powerful characters like cloud.

It's not a port, but it's hard for people not to see it as one with the same level of graphics as the Wii U version, and the characters having mostly the same skills, but that's an important thing for competitive play.

I thought they did a great job. Bringing all the old characters back was a good move. (Loving Zelda's new design too)

Let's face it, it's melee HD deluxe.

It is a straight up port. Same engine, ame graphics, just added characters, stages and a few mechanics improvements.

Yet people still will praise the fuck out of sakurai for being lazy.
are you serious -.- I would love to see you go through the hell of balancing fighters in a game when theres 65 to keep in line.

Like Bayonetta? I'm watching the Invitational, and one of the players used Bayonetta and completely owned a Ridley player. It was disgusting, that's the word the commentators said, "disgusting." She's still crazy. They stress it's not a final version, but an E3 version.

But that could be by design. Problem with bayonetta is she is MEANT to a overpowered character. If you played any of her games, you would know. And stripping like for example, witch time. Is the equivalence of stripping kirby of copy and inhale. All the moves she uses in smash are used in her games. But, the fix, which still makes her that op character, is to make her much lighter. In her games, you take damage and that takes a huge chunk of your life. But I have noticed that bayonetta was already the 45th heaviest character in smash 4. Which is only about 13 places away from being the lightest character in the game. I don't think the right way to deal with her is to nerf the moveset, but more make it easier for her to die by attacks. But a skilled player should always come on top.

I wouldn't call an entire new battle mode "a few additions" but you're right. It's still an enhanced port.

I don't think it matters.

The hardware jump from the Wii U to the switch is not very big at all so anyone expecting drastic changes or improvements were always going to be disappointed.

Smash being portable is going to be HUGE. My friend in work is buying one purely for Smash and honestly it will add a whole new dimension to my Switch, being able to play against him.

Here lies the hopes and dreams of Smash for 3DS

but on serious note:

I personally view it as a port (More or less in the same Vein as MvC3 to UMvC3, which coincidentally uses the ultimate moniker). Even with the changes, you can clearly see some of the remnant physics and code that was used for Smash4 go into this game. Don't tell me that bayo being able to do the bread and butter combo was intentionally programmed into the game. Yes there are new assets and several changes, but this game definitely ports a lot of the assets found in Smash4, relative to previous entries and their predecessor.

I don't think it uses unreal engine, it's literally in the same credits for fortnite which is made by epic games who licence the unreal engine (which fortnite uses too obviously)
