I got a wii for 6$ (30 lei/ron). It came with no accessories and the dvd drive is broken. I spent 18$ on a wiimote and I think I got scammed with a bootleg. I made a sensorbar out of some sensors and a wooden stick and I had to stick out cables from the motherboard for video output. I don't really know if I got a good deal.

You should've spent a little more from 30 to 50$ to get the console in good condition & at least all the cables and a Wiimote. But i guess it depends on where you live..
I agree, while the disc drive is not that important for the Wii anymore, the cables are and a sensorbar would have been nice. Also, most bootleg Wiimotes are literal trash. I think that you have to spend more money to get these things than if you have waited for a better whole package.

Not worth it buying a barebones Wii. Wiis are so cheap these days.

Also it would cost less if you just go with the whole thing rather than buying each thing separately. And the low price indicates that it has seen some wear & tear or prolly just faulty.

I just checked my wii, since it's still plugged in. my disc drive has also failed. it would've been a miracle if it still worked, since it's a 2006 model. I can sync remotes, open homebrew channel, go into system settings, etc. looks like everything still works except for the disc drive. I'm a bit bummed about that, but it's not like it's been used for many years. it probably saw no use once I got the wii u in 2014 or so. the disc drive motor also makes this weird grinding noise when you turn on the system, and when it's supposed to read the disc, the home screen music skips once, when you'd normally see the disc name and icon appear.

I was just using my Wii yesterday playing Skyward Sword with the disc actually and it played fine, mine is also a launch model ( i think?), i would say that the laser/ disc drive on the Wii (also the one on the original Xbox) is much more reliable than say the PS2 (Slim & Fat).

it looks like it works with burns (no skipping or anything), so I think the issue is modchip related:

Yeah, some wiis sell in romania for about 160$... yikes. I saw PS Vitas sell for 400$ here. It was the cheapest wii I could find if I didn't want to walk 2 hours to where they want me to go to pick the console up.

before I read this thread, I was like "hell, yes!" however, if you have to macgyver a bunch of things together just to get it to function, I would've just thrown it in the trash.
I really liked taking it apart it. It was more of a learning experience.

Yeah, but not in the danubo-crapathian-pontic country, where an usd is 5 ron and a switch game is half my weekly groceries. I do not like taking gambles because I got scammed 4 times while trying to get a good laptop.

I can't seem to get multi-iso cube games to work (get black screen, then the system freezes). I'm going to try a normal cube iso, but I'll have to download it on my laptop and burn it on my parents' pc, since my computer doesn't have an optical drive. hope this works or cube games don't work at all.

I got gamecube games working as well as those multi-iso collections. it was a pita, but I had to reinstall the normal mios, since I was using dios mios on the wii, then I installed the wrong bc from nus, so I installed another one I found on a site, which was risky. then, I tried using my wavebird, and the numbers on the receiver were impossible to read, but I found the right combo. anyway, it's fixed, and ocarina of time looks much better than it does on nso, not sure if it's meant to be in widescreen, but it is. I also put the framemeister to force 16x9, and it looks pretty damn good:

Nice! Though why are you using dios mios to launch the multi-game gc disk? I think it's supported by Nintendont/USBLoaderGX ?

Mios and modchip.
I understand about Dios Mios, but i don't think it was just the modchip alone as the retail discs wouldn't have worked with Nintendont either, unless it was the combination of the two that did it (Mios +Modchip). But glad you got it going! 👍
