Title says it, yeah I did steal a gateway from a store... The brazillian police probably won't care, I got it off from what we call "popular shop" (a kind of place mostly for crappy clones or pirating devices)

The questions I have are, is it safe to get the roms of the games I own? I mean nintendo won't try to bite my beloved dongle right? Plus is 2.0b1 the latest version safe from bricking code? Can i get my saves from the games I already own?

I'm just going to pretend the first paragraph doesn't exist.

As far as your questions go, some countries have varying laws. The idea of backing up games you already own is valid in some countries and not valid in others. I don't know Brazilian law off the top of my head. As far as 2.0b1, there are reports of bricks (not really confirmed though) but from what I have seen, it's not as bad as 2.0b2. IF you're absolutely paranoid go to 1.2.

...are you like 12?
You're stealing physical objects to allow you to steal game..?

I own them already, it's just hard to carry everything in my pocket

You better check it is a 'real' Gateway then, rather than a relabeled clone. Wouldn't want to brick your console would you? Or I guess you could just steal another if needed. In fact, why not steal 20 or 30 and sell them on ebay?

You should steal a 3 DS to go with it, then steal a house to live in to play your stolen gateway on your stolen 3DS, I really don't see why you even said that, you look like a right nob, wouldn't surprise me if it turns out the Chinese mafia run that shop and you get a visit during the night lol, you obviously have no sense so you probably left your real name and address in the store

If you are to do something illegal, might as well stick into the illegality from one end to the other.
Although you may be increasing your chances of getting caught.

I don't know in brazil, but up north, if you consider the kind of charges that can be laid on you for the theft of merchandise <100$ VS. charges for illegal use of copyrighted material, it's kind of ridiculous.

More realistically, if you steal something from a bootleg shop, you won't have problem with cops, though you may have some problems with some unfriendly characters.

Not that I'm trying to justify anything, but, how is stealing an already illegal device illegal or immoral? Isn't the device meant for playing 3DS "backups" anyway?

Well, I hope for a karmatic ending: with the GetAway screwing over their customers and other flashcard customers alike, I hope you'll be one of the casualties. (stealing the games alone is worth this retribution)
This way your "investment" will pay off.

Filthy Thief.

@Veho all the IT stuff i've learned in school has been extremely basic... i knew most of it already

it's better to learn on your own, it goes much faster than the snail pace they teach you at in school

  • Coto @ Coto:
assembly is actually great, gets you to run everything about 80% faster than C massaged code
    Gift
  • Coto @ Coto:
assembler syntax is dead easy, but "how to put pieces together" logic requires to have in mind the original idea, and the CPU layout, and that's like double the work of C stuff. It's best to write C first, add some unit tests, then go assembly, then run the unit tests

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
it can run faster than compiled code, but modern compilers are really good at optimization and you need to be even better at assembly to do a better job

  • Coto @ Coto:
with that all your assembler base will actually work

  • Coto @ Coto:
even on embedded systems, without a damned debugger

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
syntax is easy but the code is hard to read, you can't look at a piece of code and expect to understand it without looking at all the code around it to see how it all works together so it takes much longer to read the code, it takes longer to write it too because what might be 1 line of code in C might be 20 lines of assembly

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the language is very simple to understand (because it's barely a language at all) understanding how all the instructions work together to form a whole is another matter, in general it's such a pain to work with that i would never recommend it unless you have a need for it. don't listen to this guy and learn assembly just because you want to make your code run faster, you are wasting your time, but if you run into a situation where your code isn't fast enough even after you enabled -Ofast and you NEED it to be faster, then you can consider assembly

@Coto have you tried -Ofast btw? ;)
