Got it. So I'm prepping the files so when I eventually send it out to get hardmodded, I don't have to worry about it.
What should be in the SD that I'll send with it? Just the NANDmin.bin

Take the SD card out of the 3DS and boot it that way, then boot the 3DS back up this might work as it did for myself.

Was just looking around. Dunno if this will help:

Black screen on SysNAND boot after installing arm9loaderhax
  1. Ensure you have a working payload.
    1. Check for the existence of arm9loaderhax.bin in the root of your SD card.
    2. If you are following the Luma3DS guide, check that
      1. /luma/firmware.bin exist; and
      2. /luma/firmware.bin is the correct one for your console.
    3. If you are following the CakesFW guide, check that
      1. /arm9bootloader.bin exists;
      2. /Cakes/firmware.bin and /Cakes/firmkey.bin exist and are the correct ones for your console; and
      3. /boot_config.ini exists.
  2. Test booting Decrypt9
    1. On CakesFW, hold X on boot
    2. On Luma3DS, hold Start on boot
  3. Try this test payload (mirror).
    1. Rename /arm9loaderhax.bin, if it exists, to something else.
    2. Place the arm9loaderhax.bin from the archive linked above in your SD root.
    3. Insert your SD card into your 3DS and power on.
    4. Press A. Your 3DS should power off; this means arm9loaderhax is working and something else is broken; your device is not bricked.
  4. Your 3DS may be bricked. For real time support, contact me or any other channel operator at #3dshacks on Rizon IRC

Kinda sounds like you didnt remove the sd card.
If remember correctly.
Once you load the 2.1 nand
You then deleted some menu items off the sd card and with sd card remove.
Boot into 2.1 OS
Then go to the web browser and dump your otp.bin

Power off
Add luma files and move a9lh and otp to correct folders.
Boot up into hourglass buly holding start.

So at what point did your 3ds shut down and not come back on?

After Poweroff, it still turns on, just the screen has no backlight. Pure black.

And that test payload no longer exists... Seems outdated.

As a last resort, there is a combo for loading a game in boot. It is A+B+X+Y+R. If it works, you can use a game exploit and restore your NAND.
Good luck!
That only works on a factory reset or freshly formatted system.
Besides, would an exploit even work then? It only loads the bare minimum components for running a game, maybe not even the SD card.
