So, how exactly does Pokemon Sun/Moon know if the Pokemon was hacked in?

Just curious, I usually don't do much hacking, just to get perfect dittos and then do the rest myself, but if all of the offspring are gonna be considered illegal then what's the point? So, basically I wanna know how the game even tells them apart or if there is a workaround?

The game can only tell when the stats or ability or met location is "unusual".

So, if you make legal, normal Pokemon then the game can't tell and they'll be allowed online then?

Offsprings of hacked pokemon are considered legit. I was wondering this myself a few days ago.

Yup. If it's possible for you to do it in the game, and you just use pkhex (or whatever) to sidestep work and randomness, you're fine.

If you can't do it in game, but you use pkhex to make it possible (umbreon at lvl1? lol no), then this is not legit.

While the offspring might be considered "illegal" by people, they aren't considered illegal by the system. There are three types of pokemon, legitimate, legal and illegal. I do the same thing (I have a box full of 6 IV Japanese dittos with different nature's so I can masuda method at the same time) and it's never kept me from online and battling and or trading. They are considered legal by thier hacking prevention system if I'm correct. The only thing that will flag it as an illegal pokemon, is if it has illegal moves (charizard learning hydro pump), illegal abilities (Mewtwo with protean) or illegal Evs and or IVs (Evs are a max of 510 total and a max of 252 in one stat) and Ivs can only be a max of 186 or 31 in each respective stat. I haven't don't any battling yet in sun or moon. But I have traded my brejects on wondertrade and have had no issues whatsoever. So in short if you breed mons from hacked dittos and raise them and EV train them without cheating I consider them legal, legitimate would be if you did it completely without using any hacks.

You should worry for those poor souls who don't cheat on principle. Imagine if some honest player receives hacked pokemon (via random trade or somehow else), all of a sudden it has 5 or 6 31 ivs... He will wonder if it's hacked or not. He will suffer because of uncertainty. Eventually he will just delete it.
    P.S. true story

there are a couple ways you can do it, you need to have JKSM and the latest version of pkhex (for PC) and you are good.

so if you have those two things. load in JK Save manager (either through Homebrew or on you main 3ds menu which would need to be installed there via FBI)

find your pokemon game (it will either be in SD/Cia or under Cartridge depending which of the two you have)

    Click on Save Data Options
    The Export Save
    Then Click on New
    and name it: main
(make sure there are no Caps and it is the exactly as i typed it lol)
This will export your save file from your copy of the game

Once you are done that, go back 3 times and then click exit.. at this point after you are out of jksm so can turn off your device and remove your sd card

put your SD card into your computer
once it is in you will need to open up PKHex
    click File
    then Open
at this point you need to find the main save file that i was telling you to export earlier
which should be located in Removable Disc/JKSV/Saves/(whichever game you are playing either Pokemon Sun or Moon)/main
the file should be in that location
Open it up then you should be able to edit the pokemon in your boxes.
Select a box where you want your dittos, then start making them.
Im attaching a link to a my dropbox so you can get the 6iv japanese ditto (it is modest), drag it into your pc as many times as you'd like then change the nature of it until you have every nature covered.

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/tjrdo7g89xajhdv/132 ★ - Ditto - 6079173A8D46.pk7?dl=0

once you are done editing dittos, and anything else in your PC Boxes, click file, export SAV and then save it to the location of where you first opened it from your SD card.

after that you are done with PKHex, close the application, eject your SD card and place it back into your 3ds.

    Open JKSM
find your pokemon game (it will either be in SD/Cia or under Cartridge depending which of the two you have)
    Click on Save Data Options
    The Import Save
    Then Click on main
and say yes to the confirmation
This will import your save file to your copy of the game

after that you should be done
turn on your game, check pc, and WIN :) you can use them to breed for better ivs (destiny knot), get the nature you want (with everstone) or use them to masuda method and shiny hunt.

    Links for stuff youll need:

    JKSM: https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-jks-savemanager-homebrew-cia-save-manager.413143/
    PKHex: https://projectpokemon.org/

shout out to the awesome people who worked on these programs :)

    私の家。。。かな?
Ugh, I am so sick of hearing these complaints and fears. Just learn to learn, you ~2 Billion People of the World that Have Internets.

Ok. So, here's the simple (and seriously, obvious) thing about the whole "Legal/Hacked" issue. (I've been dealing with this since... Red/Blue, so I just might have some clue what I'm talking about.)

    Hacked Illegal VS Hacked Legal/Legal
The ONLY real difference is that a Hacked Illegal SHOULD NOT exist, and will never occur by any possible in-game instance.
So, if you hack a Pokemon to be the exact same as if you had done all the in-game work etc., then NO there is nothing the game cares about: IT IS FINE.
(You can argue the moral horizon as much as you want, but in the end, I just don't care. I don't have the hours of life to spend like you, so shut up, I'm not listening, the only real difference is the time/work I saved to get the exact same result.)

So, how do they check? Easy: When you go online, whatever Pokemon is being involved in online instances is checked against the Legal variables. If it fails, then duh, it's hacked. If it passes, then it's fine, regardless of HOW it got made (generated by game or PKHeX, it's the same data-wise).
ie: You CAN NOT receive a Hacked Illegal in any online-instance, so stop your paranoia already. All this stuff was already true LAST GEN.

As to the whole: "Did I get a Hacked Pokemon, it's got 6x31 IVs!?" First off, shut up, it CAN and (though rarely) DOES happen in-game with random encounters. Heck, it's actually MORE likely (though still quite rare), now that some Pokemon are guaranteed to get any 31 IVs.
Furthermore, they intentionally made it possible to rather easily breed 6x31 IV Pokemon, via the Red Knot breeding. Done right, there is as good as a 1/31 odds of any offspring having that perfect number. Likely? Obviously it's still "rare", but it is VERY possible. Heck, it's FAR more likely than breeding a Shiny, and THAT has been done to absurd amounts since they introduced easier and easier ways to get Shiny Pokemon (via encounters or breeding).

Which takes me to the next point: Shiny. If it's Shiny, stop bellyaching about "is it hacked?!" Seriously, they are now by comparison so common even WITHOUT cheating that they are hardly the special "OH DUDE IT'S A SHINY!!!!!" that they were 10 years ago. THAT TIME IS PASSED, shut up already.
Are Shiny Pokemon still quite rare and VERY awesome bragging rights? Heck yeah! Are they as rare as they were? So very heck no.

In short, it really boils down to this:
    1) If you cheat, just do your research to keep it Legal so you don't make a fool of yourself to whoever you encounter when the game says "Oh, there's a problem here!". It's no different in the end, so just be fun for everyone! (If anything, research and apply some really different tactics that would take forever to set up so you can show the world something new and fun!)
    2) If you get a Pokemon and it's great, stop being a jerk and assuming it's cheated, because you are ONLY TOTALLY RUDE to all those people who actually DO put in all the work to get a perfect 5/6x31 IV Shiny Whatevermon and actually had the decency to trade it to a paranoid jerk like you apparently are.
    3) If someone beats you with a 6x31 IV team, don't be a sore loser and blame "oh they must have cheated". IT IS NOW POSSIBLE TO SOFT-MOD YOUR IV'S, IN-GAME, TO 6x31, so shut up, it's now even MORE likely to face a perfect-stat team than ever, and all from in-game. (The reason I call it an in-game soft-mod is because the IV buffs only apply for that individual Pokemon, they can't be bred and don't show up in-stats as 31) Don't believe me? Learn to research for reals and do it.

It further boils down to this: Trust more, fear less. Enjoy the game however you play it and stop demonizing people that take whatever shortcuts just because you don't. You aren't in their game, they aren't in your game, and that one time you meet them online they are Legal-checked to use possible Pokemon anyways. The days of the "total cheated team wins always" is basically gone, thanks purely to Game Freak/The Pokemon Company.

EDIT NOTE: For those who read that post about PKHeX, be careful to only ever use the newest version. That "Game-breaking Glitch"? Not a glitch in the game at all, that was from a prior version of PKHeX, as stated by Kaphotics himself.

Also, there appears to be issues with both Cyber Save Editor 3DS (if you import, like me) and JKSM having troubles with Sun/Moon saves, so be sure to always make a backup save of your last-working un-modded game. (In particular, Cyber does not currently support Sun/Moon, for unclear reasons, and JKSM has been reported to be having issues with re-inserting saves that work, including claimed un-modded saves, so keep that in mind for now.)

Also, kind-of (not really) sorry to people that are oh-so-offended by people that use only Caps to emphasize stuff. I don't really care if you hear it as just yelling, since I basically really am about this stuff, and I don't care to take the time to make it pretty with bold, italics, and such. I'm around to give information and beat people over the head with it, not to make it pretty.

The game cannot tell, the server-side portions such as GTS and Battlespot can look for impossibilities, but only at a basic level. It can tell if there is a situation where Magmar could learn Follow Me, and it could tell that Magmar is breedable, but it won't check that a bred Pokemon has an event-only/game-exclusive move from a previous gen.

My entire hacked 6th gen team cannot be told, I go deep on that.
