Do as tax suggests. Load all your xci to where all games appear on the home menu, reboot into regular firmware and update from there

As title suggests nearly every xci file is Asking for an update

I updated to 5.1 several weeks ago. Recently, I bought the SX OS license and when I'm in the Album/Boot loader, I select my game and get popped back out to the main menu. From there, I just launch the game. If it needs to update anything, I let it.

I don't want anything from the eShop and hardly ever bought DLC for my Wii/WiiU. If I get banned on the Switch, oh well. The way things are progressing with Switch hacking, I have faith that a way will be found to run eShop titles and use DLC. Just a matter of time I think.

People are swapping to official firmware and injecting game certs etc.. but no one really knows what nintendo is tracking. I think most people who are using exploits or mods have resigned to the fact that regardless of what precautions they take they are running the risk of being banned and there ok with that. For now you can still update with a banned switch.

If you cant handle the consequences I suggest just avoid going against the tos untill more info is availible.

I went through and opened every game so it appeared in "all software". Booted to OFW, used the + symbol to open more options and updated that way. Pretty sure that's how TX suggest doing it.

This is the method I use to update games and I haven’t had any issues.

Just follow these Steps:

1) Select the game(s) you want to update from the sx os loader menu so it puts it on the main screen.

2) Power off the switch completely.

3) Make a decision by selecting either Sub-step A or Sub-step B.
  • A) Preferred Method: Eject the sd card if you would like update data to be installed onto the internal memory of the switch. This will save precious space on the sd card.
  • B) Alternate Method: Leave the sd card inserted if you would like update data to be installed onto the sd card. This will save space on the internal memory of the switch.
4) Boot into ofw.

5) Connect to the Internet, select the game you want to update and press + to update; Repeat as necessary.

6) After desired updates are downloaded and installed, enter Airplane Mode and power off the switch.

7) Insert the sd card if you removed it as indicated in Step 3 Sub-step A; Otherwise, continue to Step 8.

8) Boot into sx os and select the updated game from the loader menu so it mounts onto the main screen.

9) Launch the updated game from the main screen and enjoy!

Look, the only things we know for sure that will ban you is cheating online, hacking online and sending bogus requests to the CDN.

Everything else is speculation because Nintendo has not done a ban wave yet.

Thanks. Haven't updated any backups myself yet (want to minimize the ban risk) but I might do it soon, getting quite annoyed with the constant update prompt once I want to start a game, haha.

Thanks for the tips! I have a question regarding "DLC". I want to have Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Japanese audio which is a download from the eshop. Could I download it on OFW without SD Card and then go to CFW with an SD Card (where the backup game is) and play it with japanese voices? I'm not sure if that would work...

An SD Card is not required to download updates or DLC, as long as there is sufficient Internal Memory available.

Is it possible to download updates to a separate SD card and then copy it via PC to your rom-filled SD card?

I don’t know. I never tried. But why would you want do do this?

I thought there might be a concern about using your SD card with roms / SX OS license data while in OFW. Not sure what type of file checking OFW does.

If there is a concern about that, AND you want to download updates greater than the remaining space on the Switch internal memory, then this could be a solution.
