I am using a specific rom on Snes9x GX 4.2.7, but it requires special mapping to display properly.

This is a summary of the game's internals:

The snes burn-in test rom. I wanted to show my friends on this game, but I don't have a Powerpak to emulate it properly on it's own hardware.

Pretty sure BSNES is the only one that does custom mapping (and in fact part of it's creation was that current emulators don't map properly).

yes, custom mapping xml file is a bsnes-specific feature
better ask snes9x team to support this ROM, custom mapping is just one (clever) way to get it running

From what I've read I'm thinking byuu plans to get rid of custom mapping once new-format ROM dumps happen.

I was thinking about that. Well, I'll go and let them know of this. It seems that bsnes is the only emulator that will run this atm, and it'll be nice to see more emulators have support for this one-of-a-kind rom.

The reason byuu made BSNES was because other emulators weren't willing to make the major changes needed to support the few games that didn't run... though I've no clue what ZSNES is up to lately.
