Its been rumoured for a while now but its now been confirmed that the silliness of SSBB only being controlled by either the classic controller or the GC one is now no more.

If you head on down to the official website you'll now see that four kinds of control are now available.

Wii Remote on its side.
Wii remote & nunchuck.
GC Controller (which on the site is recommended due to the "Powerful" rumble.
Classic Controller.

Also on the site is this quote; "How do you do smashes and dashes with just the Wii Remote? If I get the chance to tell you, I will." Sounds like you could you motion sensor style moves now if you choose too.

Cool I guess. Give me motion controls though, otherwise they could have made it for gamecube for all I care.

I wonder how the wiimote by itself will work...

They should bring out R.O.B. for it, the way you fight is basically by kicking the crap out of it in actual life and the damage you do on that reflects on your enemy.

Hm.. I have a feeling the single wiimote will work, like "the boxer" stance in Warioware. But as for moving... that would be wierd. I dunno how with just the wiimote you'd move. The D-pad i would think would be to either use different moves or smash attacks.

good that you don't need example 4 wiimotes with nunchuck or 4 gc controllers to play with firends. now you can use random controllers what you have in home.

I don't see how single wiimote would be weird would probably play similar like using a NES controller but perhaps shaking it would of some kind of attack.

Similar to Metal Slug Anthology, which you mentioned. Thing is that it worked like garbage. It's just not intuitive to shake the controller like that to simulate a button press, I feel.

Someone else asked what's the point of releasing it on the Wii if you're just going to use the GC controller. That strikes me as odd because it seems to imply that the only reason one would play Wii games is for the control scheme.

Well said. I don't need some tacked on weak controls for this game. It works superb with the gamecube controller and shouldn't be messed with. All this means is that when you play online, you'll be able to tell that you're beating someone not because they don't have the skill to play, but that they're lacking a proper controller.

However, hardware can sometimes give a near-unfair advantage. I see this all the time on PC online games. Ex) Two people are playing counterstrike. They both have equal skill. One person is using a 1Ghz P4 at 600x800,and onboard video solution, the other person is using Two quad-cores with each core clocked at 3Ghz (all those cores don't matter, i know) Two 8800Ultras in SLi, and two 2500x1600 monitors next to each other. WHo's going to win? The guy with the better computer, all other factors removed, because he can see the enemy long before the enemy can see him (with the two screens, with high res)

Just as easily, one person might just have wiimotes because they bought a wii, for wii games, without ever having bought or wanting to get gamecube games. So there would be no reason to get a gamecube controller. Now the only reason they would lose is because they do not have the superior hardware. (in this case, the gamecube controller)
